Charlotte Hornets 2025-26 NBA Betting Lines

Charlotte Hornets NBA Betting Lines

As bad as the Charlotte Hornets have been, there may be some light at the end of a very dark tunnel. The Hornets had a solid summer of offseason moves that make them immediately improved for the 2025-26 season. While the Hornets are not yet ready to win a championship, they have the foundation laid to build into contender status. But for those who remain skeptical, there is a solid reason why that is justified. Since the 2004-05 season, the Charlotte Hornets have had only three playoff appearances and have not made the postseason since the 2016 NBA Playoffs. Last year, things went from bad to worse. Charlotte finished with the fourth-worst record in the history of the franchise. It was a nightmare baptism under fire for rookie head coach Charles Lee, who had nothing to work with and no chance for success.

Off-Season Moves for 2025-26

Key additions: Kon Knueppel, Liam McNeeley, Collin Sexton, Pat Connaughton, Spencer Dinwiddie

Key subtractions: Jusuf Nurkic, Mark Williams

The Hornets should be more competitive in 2025-26 after finding playmakers to supplement LaMelo Ball. Charlotte's offense collapsed without Ball last season, which doesn't figure to continue with the additions of veterans Spencer Dinwiddie and Collin Sexton and the return of Tre Mann. And No. 4 pick Kon Knueppel, MVP of the summer league championship game, should help the Hornets' shooting immediately. Knueppel and fellow rookie Liam McNeeley should provide shooting for a team that desperately needs it around LaMelo Ball.

The Hornets targeted a pair of veterans, Sexton and Dinwiddie, as capable backups to the oft-injured Ball. Basically, a lot is being done to both build around Ball and prepare for his absence, which is a harsh reality for the Hornets and not one in which a lot of other teams would want to exist.

Charlotte is, however, better off than it was at summer's start, other than its apparent plan to begin the season without a starting-caliber center. That seems like something the Hornets would want for Ball, too, but they sure did not want it to be Mark Williams, whom they jettisoned (again) for draft compensation.

Key Players

PG LaMelo Ball was the 3rd overall pick of the NBA Draft out of Spire Academy by the Hornets. He was a 2022 NBA All-Star and the 2021 NBA Rookie of the Year. This past year, he averaged 25.2 points and 7.4 assists per game.

F Miles Bridges was the 12th overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft out of Michigan State, where he was a consensus All-American. This past year, he averaged 20.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

F Brandon Miller was the 2nd overall pick of the 2023 NBA Draft out of Alabama by the Hornets. He was named to the 2024 NBA All-Rookie team and was a 2023 consensus All-American at Alabama. This past season, Miller averaged 21.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Miller played in only 27 games this year because of a wrist injury.

Head Coach

Charles Lee was the rookie head coach last season. He arrived from the Boston Celtics, where he was an assistant.

Charlotte Hornets History

Since rejoining the NBA as the Charlotte Bobcats in 2004-05, the second-generation NBA franchise in the Queen City has made the playoffs just three times, with the latest postseason appearance coming in 2016. All three times, the Bobcats/Hornets were bounced in the first round, and they were swept twice. Their best performance so far came in 2015-16 when the Hornets took the Miami Heat to seven games thanks to Kemba Walker and Nic Batum.

This down period is a shame, considering Charlotte was a popular team in the 1990s. Fans loved to play with Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson, and Muggsy Bogues in NBA Jam, and the Hornets made the playoffs five times in six seasons before leaving for New Orleans because of owner George Shinn.

Robert Johnson became the first African American owner of a major professional sports franchise in the United States when Charlotte was awarded an expansion franchise shortly after the original team left for New Orleans. Johnson owned the team until he sold it to a group led by Michael Jordan, and His Airness was in charge of the franchise since that point. But Jordan finally sold the team after years of futility on the hardwood.
