New York Knicks 2025-26 NBA Betting Lines
There is a reason that the New York Knicks have not won an NBA title since 1973. Under the leadership of Tom Thibodeau, the New York Knicks became a regular playoff team. After missing the playoffs from 2014 through 2020, Thibodeau led the Knicks to the NBA playoffs in four of his last five seasons, including the past three seasons. As always, Thibodeau produced a good defensive team. The difference in 2025 was that Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns gave New York much-needed offensive capability. Hence, the Knicks became the Cinderella story of the 2025 NBA Playoffs. For the first time in 25 years, the Knicks made the Eastern Conference Finals. As a result of his achievements, Thibodeau was fired by the Knicks. You can’t make this insanity up. The kinder, gentler Mike Brown takes over the bench.

Off-Season Moves for 2025-26
Key additions: Guerschon Yabusele, Jordan Clarkson
Key subtractions: Precious Achiuwa, P.J. Tucker
The Knicks had nothing more than a taxpayer's mid-level exception and minimum contracts to upgrade a rotation that was only seven men deep in the postseason. They smartly identified Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson as capable contributors from teams that failed to make the playoffs last season.
Their biggest move of the summer, however, swapping head coach Tom Thibodeau, who led them to the Eastern Conference finals, for Mike Brown, remains a question mark. Who knows if his offensive schemes can squeeze more from a roster that Thibodeau mostly maximized around Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson, despite their built-in defensive limitations. At the very least, Brown should be able to enter this coming season's playoffs with a more rested roster, thanks to their offseason additions.
After adding Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns last offseason, the Knicks had limited room to maneuver this summer. Getting Guerschon Yabusele to take ever so slightly less than the entirety of their taxpayer midlevel exception allowed New York to upgrade its second-unit frontcourt and still fill out its bench with veteran minimum contracts. One of those veterans, Jordan Clarkson -- signed after reaching a buyout with the Utah Jazz -- gives the Knicks more athleticism off the bench than unsigned backup guards Cameron Payne and Landry Shamet.
Key Players
PG Jalen Brunson led the Knicks this past year with 26.0 points and 7.3 assists per game. Brunson was the 33rd overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft out of Villanova by the Dallas Mavericks. He is a 2-time NBA All-Star, including this season.
C Karl-Anthony Towns averaged 24.4 points and 12.8 rebounds per game this past season. Towns was the first overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft out of Kentucky by the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he played his entire career before this season. He is a 5-time NBA All-Star, including this past season.
Head Coach
Mike Brown is a former head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers (twice), the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Sacramento Kings. He is a 2-time NBA Coach of the Year. His career record is 454-304.

New York Knicks History
On the whole, there has been no more disappointing NBA franchise than the New York Knicks. Their failure has been a source of perpetual frustration for the league, as the NBA is at its best when there are strong teams in big cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The Knicks were unable to fully capitalize on the intrinsic advantages that come with being the only NBA franchise in America’s largest city, which contributed to the Nets being allowed to relocate to Brooklyn.
The New York Knicks were founded in 1946 as part of the BAA, but they have only won two titles during their long history. They play in the most storied venue in America (Madison Square Garden), but the fans have not been able to root for many winners over the years. The Knicks made it to the NBA Finals in three straight seasons shortly after joining the NBA, but they lost in seven games to the Rochester Royals and Minneapolis Lakers and fell to the Lakers in five games in the final year.
The Knicks weren’t truly competitive again until the early 1970s. Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Bill Bradley, and Dave DeBusschere led the franchise to titles in 1970 and 1973, with Reed permanently etching his place in Knicks history after taking the floor in Game 7 despite having a torn muscle in his right thigh. Unfortunately, it would take two decades until the Knicks were a title contender again.
Patrick Ewing was arguably the greatest player in franchise history, but even the Hoya Destroya was unable to lead the Knicks to another title. The Knicks were able to make it to the NBA Finals twice with their rough-house style in the 1990s, but they fell to the Houston Rockets in seven games in 1994 and lost to the San Antonio Spurs in 1999.
Since James Dolan took control of the Knicks' day-to-day operations in 1999, the team has been one of the worst franchises in the NBA. While the 2023-24 season was an improvement, the Knicks have much work to do to earn the trust of the public fully.
