Odds Analysis

It’s been a tough year for Leicester City. The club had aspirations of making it back to European football despite losing Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City over the summer, but those have been put on the backburner due to more pressing concerns. The Foxes’ popular owner died in a tragic helicopter crash following a draw with West Ham at the end of October, and there has been a somber atmosphere around the club since that time. Leicester’s performance on the pitch over the last two months has been lackluster. The Foxes have won just two of their last seven matches, defeating Cardiff City and Watford. They were fortunate to get a draw on the road against Fulham on Wednesday too.

Spurs have been great over the last month in spite of a loss on the road to Arsenal. They have won four of their five Premier League matches, defeating tough foes like Wolves and Chelsea in the process, and they have given themselves a good chance of making the knockout rounds of the Champions League. On Wednesday, Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, and Son Heung-min all found the back of the net in a 3-1 win for the club over Southampton.

Key Injuries

Daniel Amartey is a long-term injury for Leicester City, and Jonny Evans is set to miss the match too. The Foxes are hoping that arguably their two best players, Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire, will be able to play despite both being listed as questionable though. Rachid Ghezzal is listed as questionable too, and Matthew James has been ruled doubtful.

There are a number of injuries for Tottenham too. Vincent Janssen has been out for a while, and Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, and Davinson Sanchez are all expected to be out until after Boxing Day. Kieran Trippier and Erik Lamela are both considered doubtful, but Jan Vertonghen is set to return after missing the Southampton game due to a red card against Arsenal.

Player to Watch

Don’t let anyone tell you that the exhibition season in July is entirely meaningless. Lucas Moura’s performance for Tottenham over that stretch gave the club the motivation to put him in the first team, and he has been a constant contributor over the course of the season. Moura has appeared in all but one Spurs match this year, and he has knocked in five goals for the club. He was one of the best players on the pitch against Southampton, and he is in good form.

Prop Bet of the Game – Tottenham Under 1.5 Goals -113

Given the way Tottenham have been scoring recently, this may seem like a losing proposition. However, this is a tough spot for Spurs. They will have just two days’ rest prior to this one, and they have a much more important match on Tuesday when they travel to Camp Nou to face Barcelona for a spot in the Round of 16 in the Champions League. There’s a good chance they rest a number of players here in order to be fully ready for that clash.

Oddly enough, Tottenham have yet to record a draw this season, but I think both sides would be happy with that result given the circumstances. Each team is likely to be without at least a couple of its top offensive contributors, and chances will probably be limited as a result.
