Tottenham Hotspur at Cardiff City - EPL Soccer Props

Tottenham Hotspur are soaring to new heights. This is their best start in the Premier League era, and Spurs have an outside shot at winning their first domestic title in nearly 60 years. They are currently in second place with 45 points, and that has them one point ahead of defending champions Manchester City at the halfway point of the season. They are six points behind league leading Liverpool, and they would love to cut that distance in half to ring in the new year. Spurs are likely to be moderate favorites per the EPL betting odds on the road against Cardiff City.

Odds Analysis

Cardiff City are just outside the relegation zone. The Bluebirds are in 17th place, and they are sitting just three points ahead of Burnley. They have not been very good on the offensive end this year, and they will likely park the bus against Tottenham. Cardiff City have already played three 0-0 draws this year, and they held Crystal Palace to a draw at nil on Boxing Day. They withstood a barrage of 31 shots from Palace, but they held and earned a point for their troubles. Cardiff City will travel to take on Leicester City on Saturday ahead of this match.

No team has looked better than Tottenham in recent weeks, not even Liverpool. Spurs avenged a 4-2 Premier League defeat at the hands of Arsenal early in the month, and they avenged that defeat in the Carabao Cup and have also won five straight Premier League matches. Tottenham crushed Everton 6-2 right before Christmas, and they followed that up with a 5-0 thrashing of Bournemouth on Boxing Day. Spurs will host Wolves on Saturday ahead of this match.

Key Injuries

Danny Ward continues to be sidelined for Cardiff City with a knee injury. There is no timetable for his return. Jazz Richards is slated to miss at least one more match with a strained hamstring, while Kenneth Zohore is a definite scratch with a thigh injury. Callum Paterson is questionable with a knee injury.

When these two teams met earlier in the year, Eric Dier’s lone goal proved to be decisive. However, Spurs will not have him for this match as he continues to recover after having his appendix removed. Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen will miss a couple more matches too, while Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen continue to be long-term injuries.

Player to Watch

Son Heung-min has been great this year for Tottenham. He has done incredibly well despite having a full dance card between his club duties, the World Cup, and the Asian Games, and he is one of the key components of an attack that continues to get better. He has notched braces against both Everton and Bournemouth in Tottenham’s last two games, and that has been huge for the club.

Since there are no props available for this game, we are going to skip that section and instead focus on picking a winner.

Spurs should be a -300 to -400 favorite in this match, and that would make them around a 1.5-goal favorite on the alternate line. At that price, I like Cardiff City to cover. The Bluebirds have been resolute in defense often this season, and they won’t fold if they give up an early goal.

With that being said, I think Spurs get the victory. They look too strong, and their attack is too fearsome not to find the back of the net a couple times. Happy New Year indeed.
