Premier League Odds to Win Title Update - Soccer Futures

Manchester City are starting to pull away from the pack in the race to win the Premier League. The Citizens are still unbeaten on the year after a 3-1 win over rivals Manchester United in the Manchester Derby, and they are looking more and more likely to repeat as champions each week. They have looked just as overwhelming as they did last season, and they are right on pace to finish with just about the same number of points too.

That won’t stop the rest of the teams from trying to catch them though. We have seen improbable comebacks in other sports and in other years, and that will bolster the reserve of teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham. However, they must keep winning and hope that City stumble.

Manchester City

The Citizens once again lead the Premier League in most major categories as a testament to their dominance. They have nine more goals than any other club in the league, and there five goals allowed are tied for the second-best total in the Premier League.

This team is incredibly deep, and they have had to rely on that depth in a few areas over the last few months. Players like Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, and Kevin De Bruyne have been hurt, but others have filled the gaps and they just keep chugging along. They will be without De Bruyne for sometime longer, as the midfielder has been snakebitten this year, injuring both of his knees at different time.

Their midfield is what makes this team so special. City have so much talent in the midfield and it can do so many things, that it’s impossible to focus on just one or two things or players. That is what makes them such a substantial favorite despite being just two points up on Liverpool.

Liverpool

You can be optimistic about Liverpool’s chances, but be careful not to get too carried away. The Reds have not been at their best this season. They have certainly improved in the back with goalkeeper Alisson playing much better than his predecessor behind a shored up back line, but the offense hasn’t scored in the boatloads like we saw last year. Mo Salah has been great, yet not the player he was last season, and Roberto Firmino has had some ups and downs.

The Reds need another one of their offseason signings to start playing well too. Naby Keita was supposed to bring over some of the explosiveness they lost when Philippe Coutinho moved to Barcelona last year. Keita has been banged up, but he has shown flashes.

Chelsea

The Blues continue to hover behind the rest of the field and hope that someone slips up. They fell behind Liverpool after a home draw to Everton over the weekend in a game where the midweek trip to Belarus probably hurt the club’s chances significantly.

Eden Hazard got off to a great start as he carried over his fantastic play from the World Cup, but since then he has slowed down. Hazard needs to be in incredible form for Chelsea to have a chance at catching Man City, and they likely need another signing or two as well.

Tottenham Hotspur

During the last break, this field was for the other teams that were close, but only Tottenham have a real chance of getting there. Tottenham sit five points behind Manchester City, and they played City tough in a close loss just a few weeks ago.

Spurs will have to discover something within themselves and hope no one gets injured to have a chance. The ownership pulled the purse strings tight during the summer transfer window, and it doesn’t look like they will chase any big names in the winter either. This team doesn’t have a lot of depth, but when they are playing off each other well, they can give any team in the EPL a challenge.
