Premier League 2019-20 Betting Odds

The Big Six clubs have dominated the Premier League the last two decades, but Leicester City’s run to the title a few years ago proved that anything is possible. That has clubs on the periphery like Wolverhampton and Everton optimistic entering the season, even though Manchester City and Liverpool are runaway favorites to win the Premier League.

Manchester City are looking to make it three straight Premier League titles. The Citizens put together the best season in Premier League history in 2017-18 and they had another great campaign in holding off Liverpool to win the title in 2018-19.

The club is loaded with talent. City have no problem scoring with Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus up front and Kevin De Bruyne is one of the best string pullers in the game. Rodri was signed from Atletico Madrid to bring some steel to the midfield, and this team is the deserved favorite once more.

As we saw last year, Liverpool are the team most equipped to challenge City for the Premier League crown. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mo Salah are the most talented trio of goal scorers in the league, and they can light up back lines.

The Reds have a master tactician in Jurgen Klopp, and a world-class goalkeeper in Alisson. Their defense has looked much better with Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren in the center, but they have yet to make any big moves during the transfer window. The club could use one more playmaker in the midfield, so I think another move is coming.

Spurs are finally spending again. After a superb season, the club opened up its purse this summer to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon. That will give Tottenham an additional weapon as they look to challenge the two heavyweights for the EPL crown.

Harry Kane has won a couple Golden Boots and Son Heung-min really came into his own last season. Lucas Moura took a massive step forward too, but there are some concerns in the back. Hugo Lloris has had some issues and the back line did not look great against the top clubs in England.

The loss of Eden Hazard looms large for Chelsea. Hazard left for Real Madrid, and the Blues were unable to replace him due to the transfer ban. The hope is that Christian Pulisic can somewhat fill in as the distributor in the midfield, but that’s a tall task. While Pulisic has a lot of potential, he doesn’t have the polish of Hazard.
This is likely to be the least productive offense of any team in the Big Six, yet Chelsea should be very good at preventing goals. Kepa is an elite goalkeeper, and Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho are good defensive midfielders, while N’Golo Kante is the best defensive midfielder in the league.

I believe that the betting odds on Manchester United to win the Premier League should be much higher than where they are now. The Red Devils didn’t get a lot better over the summer, and Paul Pogba might be on his way out at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a good job of making the club respectable again, but there are real concerns in the back. I think sixth place is the pinnacle for United.

Arsenal don’t have much of a chance either, but their odds are more reflective of that. The Gunners didn’t do much during the summer transfer window, and it’s going to be tough for them to even challenge for a spot in the Champions League. There are holes throughout the roster, and Arsenal need to make multiple big moves to become a contender once more.

I do like Wolverhampton as a long shot. Wolves were known as the Big Six killers last year with results in nine of their 13 games against the top teams, and they should be even better in their second year under Nuno.
