Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League Odds

Everything is going right for Newcastle United now. The Magpies are coming off a huge upset over Manchester City on Tuesday, and they finally came to terms with Atlanta United for the rights to Miguel Almiron early Wednesday. They are now five points clear of the relegation zone, and Newcastle must feel confident about their chances of avoiding the drop going forward. That’s a good sign because they face a challenge this week when they head south to take on Tottenham Hotspur.

Odds Analysis

Tottenham Hotspur are third in the Premier League table with a record of 17-0-6 coming into their clash with Watford on Wednesday. For the first half of the season, it looked like Spurs would have a magical campaign despite the club struggling with finances due to the continued delays with their new stadium. However, injuries and international duties have left Spurs short-handed at the worst possible time. That played a part in Spurs getting sent out of the FA Cup over the weekend, and it was one of the catalysts behind the club falling to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup too.

The Magpies lost to Watford in the fourth round of the FA Cup over the weekend, but the club’s only real goal this season is to avoid relegation. Newcastle have been in the relegation zone for much of the season, but they have recently climbed out of the bottom three and are now 14th in the table. They hammered Cardiff City at home 3-0 two weeks ago, but the win over City was huge. Newcastle were behind for most of the match after a Sergio Aguero goal in the first minute, but Salomon Rondon equalized in the 66th and Matt Ritchie grabbed Newcastle the full three points with a penalty conversion in the 80th minute.

Key Injuries

For the next six weeks, Spurs will have to make do without two of their most explosive players. Harry Kane suffered an ankle injury two weeks ago, and although there was initial speculation that he could return in short order, that has since gone by the wayside. Dele Alli’s thigh injury will keep him out until mid-March too. Ben Davies has been ruled out due to a strained groin, and it’s unclear when he will return. However, Tottenham have received good news as well. Son Heung-Min is back from the Asian Cup at just the right time, and Moussa Sissoko was recently cleared to return.

Newcastle’s victory over Manchester City was all the more impressive considering the Magpies injury situation. Ki Sung-Yeung, Jose Sanmartin Mato, and Rob Elliot have all been ruled out because of injuries, while Yoshinori Moto is still on international duty with Japan. Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett are doubtful to play here, while Karl Darlow and Mohamed Diame are listed as questionable.

Player to Watch

Getting Son Heung-min back is huge for Tottenham. He has been a big catalyst for Spurs this year, and he is one of those players that makes everyone around him better. Son has good chemistry with Lucas Moura and Christian Eriksen, and his ability to play off both players is key. He has eight goals and five assists in 17 Premier League appearances this year.

Tottenham will have one day less rest than Newcastle United here, but Spurs have more talent even without Kane and Alli available. The plus side of getting bounced from two cup competitions is more rest, and Tottenham will make the most of that soon. This should be a win for Spurs.
