Tottenham Hotspur at Crystal Palace Picks

Crystal Palace’s run through the toughest part of their schedule continues this week when they host Tottenham Hotspur. This will be the third top team that the Eagles face in as many weeks, and they are just out to pick up points and stop their slide down the table. Meanwhile, Tottenham has moved back into fourth after a win over Wolverhampton last week, and Spurs are looking to maintain that spot this week. They have had some trouble in situations like this earlier in the year though.

Odds Analysis

Tottenham barely avoided what would have been an abject disaster against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday. Spurs are behind the eight ball in their quest to get to the knockout rounds of the Champions League, and they will either need to win out or get some help if they are to advance over Inter Milan and Barcelona. Domestically, they are in better shape. They moved a point ahead of Arsenal in their bid for a top four finish after a 3-2 win over Wolves that was closer than it should have been. Spurs jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but they conceded two penalties in 11 minutes to make the final 15 minutes of the match stressful for their fans.

Palace have tumbled in the standings after a promising start to the year. Now, the club is looking to rediscover its form before relegation becomes a real possibility. Crystal Palace have not won since knocking off Huddersfield Town nearly two months ago, and they have largely failed to pick up points. The Eagles have drawn with Arsenal and Newcastle United, but they have lost their other four matches since the win.

Key Injuries

There are some important injuries to note on the side of Palace. Joel Ward, Connor Wickham, and Christian Benteke continue to be sidelined due to injuries, and all three have already been scratched for this game. The good news for the club is that Scott Dann may be ready to return, and he is listed as questionable.

Spurs are dealing with some absences as well with Vincent Janssen and Jan Vertonghen still sidelined. Danny Rose and Eric Dier have already been scratched from the lineup for this tilt too, while the club is in a wait and see face with Mousa Dembele. Victor Wanyama looks set to return from a knee injury though, and he is listed as probable.

Player to Watch

Harry Kane came through when Tottenham needed him the most in Champions League action on Tuesday. He leveled in the 76th minute and provided the game winner in the 89th to lift Spurs over PSV. Kane has not put up his typical gaudy numbers thus far in the Premier League though. He has played well with six goals and an assist through 11 matches, but Spurs needs him to be at his best to truly contend with giants like Manchester City and Liverpool. He will have three days off before this one, giving him some time to rest and recuperate.

Prop Bet of the Game – Crystal Palace to score at -250

Spurs have had some issues in the back when it comes to defending, and Hugo Lloris has not been sharp this year. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have struggled, but they have found the back of the net against both Arsenal and Chelsea in consecutive weeks, and I see them scoring once more here. Wilfried Zaha has been something of a spark, and that has encouraged the Eagles.

To be fair to Palace, they may be slumping, but they have had a brutal stretch. It’s not easy playing Chelsea and Arsenal in consecutive weeks, and before that they played the top outside contenders in Bournemouth, Wolves, and Everton. Not getting points against those teams is not as bad as it seems given their quality, so I think there is value in Crystal Palace at this price.
