English Premier League Odds

It would be an utter shame if Liverpool ended this season without a single trophy to their name, but it’s shaping up that way. They were on the receiving end of some Lionel Messi magic on Wednesday, and their Champions League hopes are on life support as a result. Liverpool now must turn their attention back to the Premier League and win their last two matches while hoping that Manchester City slip up some time in these next two weeks. The Reds know they need a win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Odds Analysis

The Magpies are right in the middle of the table, and they have been playing well in recent weeks to ensure they won’t have to worry about the drop. Newcastle United have knocked off Leicester City and Southampton, and they drew with Brighton and Hove Albion last week to make it three results in a row. They have been offensively challenged all season though. Newcastle are one of just five teams to have scored less than a goal per game this season.

Liverpool have won every league match for the last two months, but they have been a point behind Manchester City in the standings ever since a 0-0 draw with rivals Everton in the Merseyside Derby. There’s a very real possibility that they end the season with 97 points and don’t finish atop the league, which would be something else. The Reds have won four straight league games by multiple goals.

The first meeting between these teams was a blowout. Liverpool didn’t need long to open the scoring against Newcastle, and they eventually pummeled the Magpies 4-0.

Key Injuries

Adam Lallana is going to miss this match on the side of Liverpool, and Naby Keita will not play in either of the Reds’ final two Premier League games of the season. Keita suffered a groin injury in Liverpool’s match with Barcelona on Wednesday, and he will need a few weeks to recover.

Sean Longstaff, Florian Lejeune and Miguel Almiron will not play for Newcastle the rest of the season. That latter loss hurts since the Magpies paid a good chunk of change to acquire Almiron from the MLS at the deadline. Jamaal Lascelles and Ayoze Perez are both probable to play in this match.

Player to Watch

Mo Salah is on top of the Premier League leaderboard with 21 goals this season, and he is out to win his second straight Golden Boot. He notched a brace against Huddersfield Town over the weekend to move ahead of Sergio Aguero. Salah has really come on strong when Liverpool have needed him the most over the last half of the season.

Prop Bet – Under 2.5 Goals +116

We have seen Liverpool concentrate more on defense when they are playing league matches in between Champions League games, and that’s why I’ll take the under here. I think the Reds will put their efforts in defending goal and winning 1-0 or 2-0, and I don’t think Newcastle will be able to put one in in response.

Liverpool are heavy road favorites for a team playing on the road on short rest. Normally, I would like Newcastle in this spot, but the Magpies won’t be able to score the goals necessary to cover the goal line.

English Premier League Odds: Liverpool FC 2, Newcastle United 0
