EPL Betting Odds – Liverpool at Everton Match Preview

Premier-League-Liverpool-at-Everton-bm-4-4

The Merseyside Derby is always one to watch. Everton and Liverpool have one of the most intense, passionate rivalries in the Premier League and both clubs would love to get a win over their rival in this one.

For Everton, there are no real stakes at play except to play spoiler. The Toffees look set to finish in the top half of the table once again, but any hope for Europe is out of the question.

As for Liverpool, the stakes are still pretty high. A win would help increase the Reds chances of a top four finish and could also move them up to second place if Manchester City beats Manchester United on Saturday. A loss would give Chelsea a window in which to catch them.

Odds Analysis

When these teams met in Anfield back in December, Everton was able to salvage a point from Liverpool thanks to a Wayne Rooney penalty kick. The Reds had completely controlled the game, but only tallied one goal in the snow and that gave the Toffees their opportunity. Liverpool will look to make sure to grab the full three points this time around.

Key Injuries

Everton will be without a few key players for this game. In addition to the club’s long-term injuries, midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson will be out for this one with a knee injury. Sigurdsson is one of the team’s most talented players and created a couple good chances for Everton the last time it played Liverpool. Not having him will certainly hurt.

However, the Toffees may have Idrissa Gana Gueye back. Gueye has been out with a muscle tear in his thigh, but he is considered 50/50 to play in this one. He is one of the team’s best defensive midfielders and not having him against Liverpool would hurt.

As for Liverpool, Joel Matip and Adam Lallana look likely to be out for the rest of the season. Both came into the year with high hopes, but injuries have played a part in derailing their effectiveness. Joe Gomez has also been ruled out for this one.

The club is holding out hope Nathaniel Clyne and Emre Can can play, but that seems unlikely. Clyne has been out for most of the season at this point and is still trying to get back into shape. He looks like he will be back at some point, yet no one knows for sure. Can is battling a lower back injury and Jurgen Klopp will likely err on the side of caution with him.

Player to Watch

Mo Salah has been the best player in the Premier League this season. Salah was wonderful against Everton the last time around, notching Liverpool’s lone goal and nearly finding two others. He showed the form that is likely to make him the Premier League’s top scorer this season and has really shined in Klopp’s system.

Salah is adept at finishing in a number of ways. He has been able to fire sizzling strikes past goalkeepers from outside the box and head home crosses on set pieces too. His performances have really helped Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane develop and make Liverpool even deadlier.

Before taking on Everton, Liverpool has a crucial match against Manchester City in the Champions League Quarterfinals. The Reds are the one team that has been able to get the better of the Citizens this season, and they have high hopes for their chances in that match. Liverpool will play Man City on the other side of this game too, and it’s very likely that Klopp will rest players that get dinged up on Wednesday. With that in mind, look for the draw to cash again.
