EPL Betting Odds – Liverpool at Chelsea Match Preview

Premier-League-Liverpool-at-Chelsea-bm-5-3

Although neither Chelsea nor Liverpool will be able to win the Premier League, both clubs still have a chance to win some hardware this season. In a couple weeks, Chelsea will be squaring off against Manchester United for glory in the FA Cup. Chelsea is a slight underdog in that match, but many will be picking them to win.

As for Liverpool, the stakes are even higher. Liverpool managed to hold on to defeat Roma in the Champions League semifinals and will be facing Real Madrid in the Champions League Final at Kyiv in three weeks. Taking Liverpool back to the top of European football would cement Jurgen Klopp’s status as one of the best managers in the world. Additionally, a win would place Liverpool third all-time in terms of Champions League wins with six to their credit.

Odds Analysis

In the Premier League, Liverpool has been content to just grab points for some time now. All the club cares about is staying in the top four in case they don’t win the Champions League. They currently sit six points ahead of Chelsea in the league, but the Blues have made up ground.

Liverpool has ended up with a draw in three of their last four Premier League matches, while Chelsea has won three straight. That gives the Blues a sliver of hope for somehow squeezing out a spot in the top four.

Key Injuries

With so much on the line, Liverpool is unlikely to take any chances when it comes to whether or not to start certain players. The club has some key injuries heading into their match with Chelsea. Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are out for the rest of the year, so the depth at those positions will be tested.

For short-term injuries, both Emre Can and Adam Lallana will not be available for this match. Klopp is hoping to have both players back next weekend, but this would be pushing it. There is a good chance that defender Joe Gomez is able to play though.

Chelsea has two long-term injuries to note in Danny Drinkwater and Ethan Ampadu. Neither player will suit up again this season. Antonio Conte would like to have David Luiz back by the end of the year, but he will not be able to play in this match.

Player to Watch

Olivier Giroud has been the hero a couple times since joining Chelsea during the transfer period. The former Arsenal man has found his footing in recent weeks, helping the Blues pick up the crucial points they need in order to have a shot at the Champions League next season.

Conte knows that it’s unlikely his club will be able to stop Liverpool completely. The Reds have been fantastic on the offensive end all year and have not had an issue scoring against the best clubs in Europe.

That means Giroud will need to have a quality performance. He was brought on for just these moments at the tail end of the season and will need to team up with Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata to threaten Liverpool at the back.

Free Soccer Betting Pick

Chelsea is desperate for all three points here. A loss here ruins their chances at a top four finish and Liverpool is not going to be as motivated as they might be otherwise. The club is going to want to rest after holding on to defeat Roma, and they will not be fully focused on the Premier League. That will give Chelsea the opportunity they need.

English Premier League Odds: Chelsea 3, Liverpool 1
