EPL Betting Odds – Chelsea at Watford Match Preview

By  Jonathan Willis

Friday, November 1st, 2019

Chelsea are off to a strong start through the first quarter of the season. The Blues are in fourth place in the Premier League table with a 6-2-2 record, and they are already four points clear of Arsenal in their bid to remain in the Champions League next season. Chelsea have won four straight matches in league play since their loss to Liverpool at the end of September, and the Blues are odds-on favorites per the Premier League betting odds on the road against Watford this weekend.

Don't miss the English Premier League action from Vicarage Road in Watford, England at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Catch every moment of the match live on NBC.

Odds Analysis

The Hornets are the only team in the Premier League that has yet to win a game this season. Watford’s offensive production has been abysmal, and that will likely lead to the club being relegated at the end of this season. This team has netted just five goals in 10 matches, and Watford has an 0-5-5 record and a -16 goal differential at the quarter mark of this campaign.

Joao Pedro will join the team in January in an attempt to stave off relegation, but Watford must survive in his absence. Not having Troy Deeney due to a knee injury has hurt too as the Hornets captain was pivotal to their success last year. Roberto Pereyra and Gerard Deulofeu were much better than this last campaign, and these forwards must perform better up top.

Chelsea were eliminated in the Carabao Cup Round of 16 by Manchester United in mid-week action. That result isn’t too disappointing as some of Chelsea’s regulars were out in the second-tier tournament, and that will give them more of a chance to focus on the Premier League and Champions League.

The Blues back line has performed much better in recent weeks, allowing Chelsea to take off. They gave up two goals to Burnley last week, but those were both in the final five minutes of regulation after Chelsea were already up 4-0.

Key Injuries

Deeney will miss at least another three weeks, further constraining Watford’s attack for the near future. Additionally, Danny Welbeck and Domingos Quina have been ruled out of Saturday’s clash, and Tom Cleverley, Ismaila Sarr, and Isaac Success are doubtful to see action. Etienne Capoue is probable to be available.

Marco van Ginkel and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are both long-term injuries for Chelsea. Antonio Rudiger will miss at least one more week with a groin injury, while Emerson is doubtful and Ross Ross Barkley and N’Golo Kante are questionable. Andreas Christensen is probable.

Player to Watch

Christian Pulisic came to Stamford Bridge with plenty of fanfare. The American starlet was the last major signing the Blues were able to bring over before the transfer ban, and the acquisition of the brightest prospect in recent US history has led to increased interest in the club across the pond. Pulisic needed some time to find his footing, but the youngster announced his presence with authority last week. He bagged a hat trick inside of 56 minutes to lead Chelsea to a 4-2 win over Watford. Those were his first three goals of the campaign, and they came after he notched an assist in the Blues’ win over Ajax in Champions League action.

Prop Bet – Chelsea FC Clean Sheet +170

Last week’s prop bet was a brutal bad beat. Burnley should have not scored two goals given their performance, and they only bagged them after Chelsea had relaxed on defense. I’m going to use the same logic this time around to bet Chelsea to hold Watford scoreless though. To be fair, I’m very surprised at this line considering Watford’s futility around the net, and I love the value.

The Blues will earn another three points on the road to maintain a cushion in their bid to finish in the top four.
