English Premier League Odds

Three points would be huge for either Burnley FC or Newcastle United on Tuesday. These two clubs aren’t in the relegation zone, but they are very close. Burnley sit in 15th place with 27 points, and the Clarets are just three points up on currently relegation bound Southampton, while Newcastle United are in 16th place with 25 points and have just one point separating them from the Saints. A win would give one of these two teams some breathing room, but a loss will lead to some teeth marks on cuticles.

Odds Analysis

Through the first four months of the season, Burnley were constantly in the relegation zone. The Clarets’ participation in the Europa League seemed like it might be their undoing, as they were stretched thin and fatigued by the necessities of the competition. However, they are currently on a seven-match point streak, and that has lifted their heads up out of the mire. Burnley have notched wins over West Ham, Huddersfield Town, Fulham, and Brighton, and they secured draws against Watford, Manchester United, and Southampton. Their lone loss in 2019 was an FA Cup thrashing at the hands of Manchester City, but the real prize is staying alive in the Premier League.

Newcastle United may have saved their season last month with a stunning win over Manchester City. The Magpies were in a precarious spot and were about to face three of the top teams in the league, but they erased a first-minute goal from Sergio Aguero to get a 2-1 win. They grabbed a draw on the road against Wolves two weeks ago thanks to a howler from Rui Patricio, and Newcastle are hoping to get a win at home against last place Huddersfield Town ahead of this match.

Key Injuries

Jonathan Walters is likely out for one more month on the side of Burnley, while Aaron Lennon is unlikely to return this season after a major knee injury. Steven Defour is still out with a strained calf, but the Clarets have said that Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady should be good to go for this match.

Rob Elliot is listed as questionable to play for Newcastle due to an unspecified surgery, while Jonjo Shelvey, Paul Dummett, and Ki Sung-Yeung have all been declared probable.

Player to Watch

After disappointing performances from Joselu and Ayoze Perez through the first few months of the season, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez made the decision to start Salomon Rondon up front, and he has not regretted it. Rondon leads the team with six goals, and he has provided a goal scoring spark that the other two have not been able to. With Miguel Almiron now setting him up, Rondon could be even more productive.

Previous Meeting

Newcastle scored a surprising road win over Burnley when these teams met in late November. The Magpies got some help early after a Ben Mee own goal, and they doubled their lead after a Ciaran Clark strike in the 23rd minute. The Clarets halved the lead after a Sam Vokes goal in the 40th minute, and the game ended at 2-1 there.

I’m a believer in Newcastle with Almiron and Rondon, but it’s hard to deny how strong Burnley have come on over the past couple months. That’s why I’m going to call for a high scoring draw. Both attacks can cause problems for the other team, making the draw and the over the best bets. I might throw a few quid on the exact score too, as there should be long odds on this.
