Brighton and Hove Albion at Cardiff City Odds

Coming into the year, Cardiff City was one of the favorites to get relegated per the soccer betting odds. The Bluebirds did not spend much after jumping back into the Premier League from Championship, unlike colleagues Wolverhampton and Fulham, and many pegged them to fall right back down. Thus far, those prognostications have rung true and Cardiff City are currently tied with Fulham at the bottom of the table. However, a win over Brighton & Hove Albion would shoot them out of the cellar and likely out of the relegation zone too.

Odds Analysis

Not too long ago, the Seagulls were in some trouble too. Brighton picked up a stunning 3-2 win over Manchester United in their home opener, but they fell off quickly and failed to pick up another win for nearly two months. However, three straight 1-0 victories over West Ham, Newcastle United, and Wolves have the club feeling bullish about their chances of staying afloat. Brighton did fall to Everton 3-1 on the road last week, but it is still job well done to this point.

Cardiff City did not pick up their first win of the season until a few weeks ago. At the time, the Bluebirds only two results had been 0-0 draws with Newcastle United and Huddersfield Town, and their opponents picked up a red card that helped their chances both times. They had been fairly anemic on offense, but they exploded for four goals in a 4-2 win over Fulham. Those four goals are nearly half of their nine goal total through 11 games.

Key Injuries

There is good news for Brighton on the injury front. No player is certain to miss the match as all three players listed on their report are questionable. Alireza Jahanbakhsh has been battling a thigh injury, while Pascal Gross and Davy Propper each are dealing with ankle issues. The latter two seem more likely to miss the match than their designation would indicate though given manager Chris Hughton’s recent comments about their status.

Things are less optimistic for the Bluebirds. Lee Peltier and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing won’t return to the club before December, while Jazz Richards is out for an unspecified amount of time. There are suspensions of note too as Harry Arter and Joe Ralls have been suspended due to cards picked up in previous matches.

Player to Watch

Glenn Murray’s rise to become one of the Premier League’s top scorers this season has been something out of a fairytale. It’s rare that players peak in their 30s, but Murray has defied all expectations to not only make it to the Premier League, but to be one of the best forwards in the league too. He has six goals through 11 matches to this point, and his determination has finally been rewarded.

Prop Bet of the Game – No goals scored at +478

This is one of the few times that an over/under will be 2 all season long, and there’s a reason for that. Both these clubs play very defensively, and three of Brighton’s four wins have come by a margin of 1-0. While neither side would be thrilled with a draw, both clubs would likely take it given it would help them in the standings, and this game is unlikely to have many chances.

The draw is a good value as well as the under too. There is no reason for their to be a lot of goals in this game, so don’t try to get cute and overthink it.
