Trump Back as Slight Election Odds Favorite After Strong Week

Donald Trump may have had his best week as President of the United States this past week. His daily COVA-19 press briefings are drawing television ratings that are on par with NFL Monday Night Football. His approval ratings for the handling of the coronavirus crisis are at 60% or better. And the US Stock Market rallied for three straight days of unprecedented growth based on the President’s optimism.

All of that has once again adjusted the ever-volatile election odds with Trump going from a small underdog last week to a small chalk at the end of this week.

Meanwhile on the Democrat side New York governor Andrew Cuomo has emerged to be seen as a potential alternative to faltering presumptive Presidential nominee Joe Biden.

2020 US Presidential Election Odds Overview and Analysis

The election odds have been as volatile as the US Stock Market. Trump began the month of March as a solid betting favorite but once the COVID-19 crisis blew wide open and the stock market crashed he dropped significantly into underdog status. But Trump has rallied with strong Presidential leadership.

Joe Biden

Last week the moniker “Hidin’ Biden” came out and we saw why that was so over the past week. Biden rushed to have a makeshift TV studio built in the basement of his home and tried to hold a press briefing. During interviews and an attempted presentation Biden faltered so badly that his handlers had to shut the program down and get him off the stage to limit the losses of his embarrassing performance.

Biden is very much showing his 77 years of age with constant verbal stumbles, gaffes and brain freezes. In comparison to the dynamic Trump standing up to a hostile press taking question after question every day for an hour or two, it’s not a good look. This has led to whispers about a potential alternative. The name most often mentioned is New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Andrew Cuomo

The governor of New York has impressed Democrats with his performance during COVID-19. He has worked effectively with Trump and even praised the President at times for his efforts. Problematic is that Cuomo ignored several warnings about New York being ill-prepared for a pandemic crisis and the need to purchase more ventilators. He blew off the information and is now paying the price while sniping for even more federal money. But unlike Biden he can at least come off as competent at a news conference briefing.

Donald Trump

With his Presidency on the brink last week, Trump showed why he will be so difficult to beat. His tireless energy and relentless fight along with unbounded optimism to rally the American people closed the floodgates, at least for now.

Unlike his cowardly Republican predecessors and competitors Trump is fearless for his counter attacks on the media. This past week he called them out for actually rooting for America to fail so that his re-election chances would be damaged. More and more Americans have caught on to that. His press conferences have been so effective that Democrat “news” outlets such as CNN and MSNBC have stopped carrying them.

There is a long and unpredictable road ahead but Trump continues to gain confidence with the American people. He proclaimed himself a war time President and has conducted himself as such in a powerful way.
