She defeated Sarah Alpar by unanimous decision, Miranda Maverick by unanimous decision, JJ Aldrich by guillotine choke submission, Molly McCann by kimura submission, and Jessica Andrade by rear-naked choke submission. Blanchfield’s only loss in her career was against Tracy Cortez by split decision in February of 2019. Blanchfield has been a pro since 2018 and she has two wins by TKO/KO and four by submission. She has three first round finishes.

Blanchfield said this to mmanews.com about her upcoming fight against Santos, “She's a little bit taller than me, I'm 5'4", and she’s 5'6. She's a striker but she has some good wrestling. She likes her takedowns off the cage, and her Jiu-Jitsu's decent. She's well-rounded, but I don't think she's necessarily dangerous.”

UFC Picks

The win by Blanchfield over Jessica Andrade sent shock waves through the flyweight division. It could be the fight that launches Blanchfield’s career. She was a rising prospect and now she is being talked about as a future champ. She will get the chance to prove her win over Andrade was no fluke, as he takes on the No. 4 ranked contender Taila Santos. This is a bounce back fight for Santos who is coming off a split decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko last July.

Santos definitely has the edge in striking, while Blanchfield should have the edge on the mat. Santos has been very good in defending takedowns in her career, so it is not a given that this fight takes place on the mat. The longer that Santos can keep the fight standing, the better chance she has.

Blanchfield is listed as a slight favorite in this fight and that is a little surprising to me. I think the oddsmakers and the public are giving her far too much credit for beating an overrated Andrade. Santos fought for the title against Shevchenko last year and many people believe Santos won that fight, even though the judges gave Shevchenko the split decision victory. I think Santos is being underrated in this fight and there is definitely value in taking her at the plus price in UFC odds.

There may also be some value on taking the rounds to go over. Santos is going to be protecting against a takedown, while Blanchfield will be trying not to get hit. I will also play this fight to go over the rounds total.
