UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Hill Betting
Mackenzie Dern (12-3, 7-3 UFC)
Dern came into the UFC with a record of 5-0 and she has seven wins and three losses in the UFC. She defeated Ashley Yoder by split decision, Amanda Cooper by rear-naked choke submission, Hannah Cifers by kneebar submission, Randa Markos by armbar submission, Virna Jandiroba by unanimous decision, Nina Nunes by armbar submission, and Tecia Torres by split decision; while losing to Amanda Ribas by unanimous decision, Marina Rodriguez by unanimous decision, and Yan Xiaonan by majority decision. Dern has been a pro since 2016 and she has seven wins by submission and five by decision. She has six first round finishes.
Dern said this to mmanews.com about her upcoming fight against Hill, “I'm coming off a loss with Yan Xiaonan. (I just want to) get back to the (win column) and get my groove in. I've corrected a lot of things. I've learned so much from my last fight. It was five rounds and was a close fight. I think I'm going into this fight with a lot more (knowledge) of the rules and understanding that MMA has the rules to it. It's not just submit, submit, submit; finish, finish, finish. It's a lot more like, winning each round and obviously the submission or the knockout is a consequence. I'm a little more smarter as a fighter now. And Angela, she has so many fights, so I think she's a perfect person for me to try to play smart with and really just try to be the better fighter in all areas. The most important lesson is not to rely too much on, 'I'm going to get the submission on the next transition.' Like, hold the position, don't lose positions... If I'm going to go for the armbar, stay on the armbar, and if I don't get it, at least stay on top and win the round.”
Angela Hill (15-12, 10-12 UFC)
Hill came into the UFC with a record of 1-0 and she has 10 wins and 12 losses in the UFC. In her last six fights, she has three and three losses. She defeated Ashley Yoder by unanimous decision, Lupita Godinez by unanimous decision, and Emily Ducote by unanimous decision; while losing to Tecia Torres by unanimous decision, Amanda Lemos by split decision, and Virna Jandiroba by unanimous decision. Hill has been a pro since 2014 and she has five wins by TKO/KO and 10 by decision. She has one first round finish.

Submission average: Dern 1.8 /Hill 0.1
The obvious question in this fight is whether or not Dern can get the fight to the mat, as that is where she has her success. Hill would like to keep this fight standing and she has been pretty good defending takedowns. Dern is listed as almost a 2-1 favorite which seems a little steep to me, so I am tempted to take Hill. That being said, I think the better option is the rounds. We know that Hill wants to keep this fight standing and Dern has said she needs to prove she is more than a one-trick pony. I think that will result in a striking battle and a fight that goes over the rounds total.
