Quarantillo said this to lowkickmma.com about his upcoming fight against Barboza, “He’s obviously a really good striker. I think a lot of people underestimate my striking. I’ve been striking for 13-plus years with boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, learning different stuff and adding a lot of new tools. There’s a lot of tools that I’ve never used in fights before that I’ve been doing for years and of course my grappling, my wrestling. I’m a black belt in jiu-jitsu. I believe he’s a black belt in jiu-jitsu as well. I think everyone in Brazil is a black belt in jiu-jitsu. I’m not too sure, but there’s a lot of different ways I can win. Just my game plan that I’m going in there with, my coaching, my coaching staff, and myself we got together and kind of talked about it. We broke down some of his fights. And obviously, there’s a lot of film on him, but I think the last few fights have really given a blueprint on what you need to do to beat him. Of course, the losses that he’s taken have been against really good guys so I need to execute at a super high level and I can’t make any big mistakes.”
Quarantillo told MMA Junkie Radio that there are no secrets as to what he is going to do in this fight. “I think I can talk about it pretty openly about what my game plan is,” Quarantillo said. “A lot of fighters are like, ‘Ah, I don’t want to tell you too much,’ but I think people that watch me know what I’m trying to do. They know that I’m trying to drag the fight out, wear you out, beat you wherever the fight goes – standing, wrestling, on the ground. Obviously, going against a guy like Edson Barboza, it wouldn’t be smart just to stand and bang with him and see who gets knocked out first. So I’m definitely trying to mix in everything that I can to make it an ugly fight, a fight I’m able to grind him down, and look to get that finish – whether it’s in the second round or third round or even the first round.”

I am tempted to take the plus price on Barboza, but I just don’t know how much he has left. What we do know is that Barboza doesn’t have the finishing power he once had. We also know that Quarantillo is going to be looking to avoid getting into a striking battle. I think that means we see a fight that goes the distance, so I will go over the rounds total.
