UFC Picks
The co-main event should be a good one, as both of these fighters have nearly identical records. Ribas moved back to flyweight last May but dropped a tough split decision to Katlyn Chookagian. Ribas did bonce back by beating Viviane Arajuo at UFC 285. Barber is on a nice roll with four straight wins, including a split decision victory against Andrea Lee.
Ribas is listed as almost a 2-1 favorite and I don’t know that I put Ribas as that much better than Barber. The problem I have with taking the underdog in this one is that Ribas is very good on the mat and Barber’s takedown defense is below average. If this one goes to the mat it could be a finish for Ribas. Because I don’t know that Ribas should be laying almost 2-1 it is hard for me to take her at that price. Conversely, I am not confident enough in Barber to take the plus price.
Normally in a fight where the two fighters are evenly matched, I look to take the rounds to go over, as a decision is the most likely outcome. In this case I am not thrilled about the price of more than 2-1 on the rounds to go over the total. I think there is a chance that Ribas will find a way to get the finish. I think taking Ribas to win by submission is the best value in this fight as we can get plus money on that UFC betting prop. I am tempted to take a flyer on Barber to win by decision at plus money as well, but if I choose that bet, it will just be a small one. Going with Ribas to win by submission has more value.
