UFC 285: Jones vs. Gane Betting

Jon Jones (26-1, 20-1 UFC)

Jones came into the UFC with a record of 6-0 and he has 20 wins and one loss in the UFC. In his last six fights, he has six wins and no losses. He defeated Daniel Cormier by unanimous decision, Ovince Saint Preux by unanimous decision, Alexander Gustafsson by KO, Anthony Smith by unanimous decision, Thiago Santos by split decision, and Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision. Jones’ only loss in his career was against Matt Hamill by disqualification in December of 2009. Jones has been a pro since 2008 and he has 10 wins by TKO/KO and six by submission. He has seven first round finishes.

Jones said this to boxemag.com about his upcoming fight against Gane, “Man, I just finished watching my fight with Thiago Santos again. I think it's crazy that you consider Gane the most technical kickboxer I've ever faced. Everything Thiago had done was good. This guy had the speed, the lightning, the power, the explosiveness and crazy versatility. Gane's last three opponents had terrible defense. These guys couldn't block a kick even if their lives depended on it. He's fought flat-footed boxers in his last three fights. The best wrestler he ever fought was Francis, its crazy.”

Ciryl Gane (11-1, 8-1 UFC)

Gane came into the UFC with a record of 3-0 and he has eight wins and one loss in the UFC. He defeated Raphael Pessoa by arm-triangle choke submission, Don'Tale Mayes by heel hook submission, Tanner Boser by unanimous decision, Junior dos Santos by TKO, Jairzinho Rozenstruik by unanimous decision, Alexander Volkov by unanimous decision, Derrick Lewis by TKO, and Tai Tuivasa by KO; while losing to Francis Ngannou by unanimous decision in January of last year. Gane has been a pro since 2018 and he has five wins by TKO/KO and three by submission. He has three first round finishes.

Ciryl Gane’s coach, Fernand Lopez said this to si.com about the upcoming fight between Jones and Gane, “This is the best opportunity for any fighter in the heavyweight division. Ciryl is fighting one of the greatest fighters ever and the title is on the line. For me, as his coach, I am very happy with the way this is going. This is his chance to be champion, and I am very proud he is in that spot. Ciryl has the skill, and if Ciryl does win, he will become the face of mixed martial arts.”

UFC Picks

There are a lot of questions heading into this fight which makes it a difficult one to predict. Jones has not fought in three years and he is now 35-years old, plus he is moving up to heavyweight. Gane doesn’t have a ton of experience either, but he has won 8 of his 9 UFC fights. With so many unknowns, I think it is probably best to avoid picking a fighter. I lean to Jones, but we just don’t know what we are going to see from him after a very long layoff. I think the best option is to play this fight to go over the rounds total. I don’t see either fighter getting a finish, so I will go over the rounds total of 4.5.
