NHL Live Betting Odds – Jets vs. Blues Game 6 Saturday!

NHL Live Betting Odds

The St. Louis Blues pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in NHL history as they were written off for dead in November after firing head coach Mike Yeo. The Blues were not only playing poorly but also without fire, desire or much effort. Enter Craig Berube. The man that served as Yeo’s assistant was promoted to interim head coach and, after a sluggish start, lit a fire under the team that saved their season and earned an unexpected playoff berth. On the whole the Blues finished 38-19-6 under Berube. But after winning the first two games of their playoff series with the Winnipeg Jets they inexplicably lost the next two games at home. Now the question is which Blues team will show up for game six.

Odds Analysis

Live betting figures to be incredibly fluid for this matchup considering that the road team won the first four games of the series and that these teams were so even and close in the regular season. With home ice not meaning much contrarian gamblers may fade the public with the visiting Jets. Live betting may also see dollars gravitate to the underdog with such a 50-50 matchup.

The Coaches

This has proven to be a career renewal for Craig Berube of the Blues. He previously coached the Philadelphia Flyers for two seasons, guiding them to one playoff appearance. A former NHL tough guy as a player, Berube has shown a coaching ability that was previously not known or appreciated by NHL brass. Now the question is if his resurrection of the Blues season will be enough to merit a full-time contract offer.

Paul Maurice has come a long way from his days as a 28-year old rookie head coach of the Hartford Whalers. Since that time, he has coached the Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina a second time, and the Winnipeg Jets. Now at the age of 52, Maurice is one of the most respected tacticians in the game. He is still in search of his first Stanley Cup title. Maurice led Carolina to the Stanley Cup Final in 2002.

Matchup Analysis

The Blues have suffered from inconsistent offense at times and ranked only 15th in the NHL for goal scoring during the regular season. The Blues figured to capitalize on a Winnipeg team that ranked only 15th in the league for goals allowed and 22nd for penalty killing. But as often happens in the playoffs the Jets have reached a higher level in this series with tighter defense and better goaltending.

Goaltending Report

There is no doubt that rookie Jordan Binnington was the key partner with Berube in saving the Blues season. Binnington was dominant for much of the season and posted a regular season save percentage of .927. However, Binnington’s playoff baptism has been something of a reality check. So far in the series Binnington has posted a .902 save percentage.

Connor Hellebuyck has been the workhorse goaltender of the Jets for the past three seasons and posted a .913 save percentage in the regular season. In the playoffs he has picked it up a notch with a .916 save percentage.

Playoff experience matters and it shows in the goaltending matchup of Hellebuyck and Binnington. Winnipeg was a preseason favorite to win the Western Conference and has shown the ability that was missing in the final month of the regular season.
