World Wide Technology Championship Golf Odds

The second playing of the World Wide Technology Championship this season has the PGA Tour switching venues with the field thinned out from when it gathered 12 months ago. Russell Henley won that event matching a tournament scoring record set the year prior by Viktor Hovland. Both of those players are not in attendance this week leaving Ludvig Aberg as the betting favorite in the outright market. Tiger Woods won’t be competing but he will have a say in who wins. Woods and his firm designed the El Cardonal golf course in Cabo San Lucas, the first Woods-designed venue to host a PGA Tour event. Odds Analysis

Akshay Bhatia +2850

Searching through Bhatia’s history it appears as though El Cardonal is a good fit for his game. Course length and wide open fairways allow him to do what he does best – drive the golf ball. Bhatia ranks highly in total driving, greens in regulation and proximity, and he’s also pretty good with the other sticks in his bag. He collected his first Tour win at the Barracuda Championship in July and boasts a runner-up in Puerto Rico and a top 5 at the Mexico Open.

Cameron Champ +5000

Flashing a hot putter the past few months Champ has been dialed in. He’s always been a big hitter with the short game his Achilles heel. Now with that going in the right direction we’ve seen the three-time Tour winner regain confidence and form. After a MC to start the fall slate Champ earned a top 10 at the Sanderson Farms Championship, undone by a closing 71. Undeterred he placed among the top 20 at the Shriners when another sloppy round got away from him. We’ve seen Champ put it all together in the past and he’s not far off from doing it again.

Lucas Glover +3750

My only concern with Glover is if he took too much time off. One of the hottest players on the planet with two wins among his five top 6 finishes during a 6-tournament stretch in July/August, the veteran makes his fall debut and first appearance since the TOUR Championship. A strong all-around player with putting his noticeable weakness, Glover was on fire with the flat stick during his heater and should be in contention with anything close to what he did a few months ago.

Adam Svensson +3850

If you can golf you can golf anywhere, and Svennson can golf. He’s been one of the most consistent players over the past several months with nine straight payouts finishing among the top 15 four times. He’s solid with every stick flashing a putter that shoots darts. The larger greens will be especially beneficial for him with the ability to limit the number of swings with his putter.

Sahith Theegala +1550

It’s hard not to back Theegala since he’s been so good for a long stretch of time. And the absence of big name stars opens the door for the former Pepperdine Wave to come charging in. After coming close several times Theegla finally broke through with a win in Napa last month, the most recent of his eight top 10s. And that doesn’t include a win at the unofficial QBE Shootout. Now that he has a taste of victory, look out.

Course: El Cardonal at Diamante – 7,452 yards, par 72

Located within the Diamante Cabo San Lucas resort, El Cardonal opened in 2014 and is the first course completed by Woods and his team. “I set up the golf strategy to make golfers think and make choices,” Tiger said about the layout. It’s a huge course at a little under 7,500 yards with wide fairways and massive greens. From the outside it doesn’t appear to be overwhelming, however swirling winds will play tricks with golf balls and a drastic elevation shift of over 200 feet from the 17th tee to the third fairway can get the best of anyone. The tournament scoring record was achieved in the previous two editions with those taking place at El Camaleon in Mayakoba. With that course hosting a LIV Golf event earlier this year the PGA Tour pulled the plug from the only course this tournament has ever known.
