U.S. Open Golf Props

Sportsbooks go all out when golf’s major championships are on the schedule. That means this week’s U.S. Open will have plenty of wagering opportunities when the field pegs it up at Torrey Pines Golf Club. With an expanded proposition bet menu, avid and novice golf fans have something to keep them interested over four days. One cool prop would be how many times the networks give a shot of the Pacific Ocean. Torrey Pines runs right along the coast and offers breathtaking views, but I digress. There is no Tiger Woods in this event as he continues to mend from injuries sustained in an auto accident, but that doesn’t mean the number of bets has diminished.

The betting markets actually run deep this week with 156 of the world’s best golfers ready to attack one of the longest courses out there. There are, of course, the standard pick-the-winner and matchup bets. But the major championships unleash a host of additional wagering options. If you’re looking for a little side action, BookMaker is the right place. Let’s take a look at some of the prop bet options and find out where you can make additional coin while wagering on the U.S. Open.

U.S. Open Betting Props

Hole-in-One at 2021 U.S. Open

Yes -150

No +110

Certain golf courses are more attractive for aces. Torrey Pines isn’t one of them. Difficult pin placements, hard greens and no easy par-3s lead me to take NO on this prop, and that offers a little return making the bet even sweeter.

You really need to keep an eye on the scores this week. Well, obviously you should do that, but when props are involved they become more important. And there are a number of side bets pertaining to the scores. Why is that you ask? The South Course at Torrey Pines plays nearly 7,700 yards at par 71 and is a brutal test with thick rough and tight fairways. The course will play different and tougher than it did in January when Torrey Pines hosted the Farmers Insurance Open. The U.S. Open played here in 2008 with Woods and Rocco Mediate finishing 72 holes at 1-under par 283.

Winning 72 Hole Score 279.5

Over -130

Under +100

This is always a popular prop bet among golf punters. Going under 279.5 is the favored route at even money and looking back at the FIO could give us some insight. Patrick Reed won the tournament in January with a 274 total and five other golfers finished right at 279. Now, the difference is that the Farmers also plays 18 holes on the easier North Course, which impacts scores. The 2008 U.S. Open contested here saw Woods and Mediate finish at 283, and the course was much shorter than it is now. Still, among the top players on the planet one of them can finish 6-under par, right?

Alternate markets are huge betting options that offer value in the right places. If you’re not feeling overly confident about who you picked to win outright you can throw down on a top-5 or top-10 showing. And if you want in on the action before the weekend there’s a prop for the first round leader.

2021 U.S. Open First Round Leader

Jon Rahm +1800

Brooks Koepka +2500

Bryson DeChambeau +2500

Dustin Johnson +2500

Jordan Spieth +2800

Rory McIlroy +2800

Xander Schauffele +2800

The favorites to hold the lead after 18 holes are shown above, but there is a complete list for every betting category available at BookMaker. This is a major and some golfers not expected to win the event can sure put on a show in the early rounds. While we all remember Tiger’s thrilling playoff win at Torrey Pines in 2008, do you know who led after 18 holes? That would be Kevin Streelman, who was a rookie at the time, and it proved my point that anyone can have a good opening. Jason Kokrak tops the Tour in first round scoring average and has been playing lights out recently. Dropping a few bucks on him at +6000 to hold the first round lead is a confident pick.

2021 U.S. Open Top 10 Finish

Jon Rahm +115

Dustin Johnson +175

Brooks Koepka +185

Bryson DeChambeau +185

Xander Schauffele +185

Betting this market is a nice backup plan if you’re hesitant to pick a winner. There are no guarantees – that’s why it’s called gambling – and with such a strong field it’s tough to pick an outright champion. But if you want to hedge your bets you can at BookMaker by wagering on a top-10 finish. These are all good picks, but one player who stands out to me is Patrick Reed. He won the Farmers in January and always seems to be around the top of the leaderboard in majors finishing inside the top-17 in five of his last six starts. He’s a good bet at +250.
