Following its triumphant return from a three-month coronavirus-induced layoff, the PGA Tour is back at it this week with the RBC Heritage, hosted by Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Typically following The Masters, this event has a new place on the schedule and a stacked field ready to tee it up starting Thursday. The field was expanded to over 150 players, 20 more than the usual allotment. A number of golfers that helped reopen the season are back at it with the top-five in the world scheduled to compete. No. 1 Rory McIlroy opened as the betting favorite. Head over to BookMaker.eu for a complete list of betting odds when you’re ready to place a wager.

Odds Analysis

Bryson DeChambeau +1356

I’m going to jump on the bandwagon and it’d probably be a good idea for you to do the same. DeChambeau was a beast at Colonial finishing one-shot off the lead. His booming tee shots played well at Colonial and this week’s setup is more of the same. He’s also enjoyed success at Harbour Town with a pair of top-5s in four starts. “This course just fits my eye. For whatever reason this course fits me nicely,” he said of Harbour Town. Who am I to argue?

Matt Kuchar +4000

When it comes to course form it’s hard to overlook the exploits of Kuchar at Harbour Town. Besides, he has something to prove after missing the cut last week. There’s no denying Kooch’s game fits the layout – he tends to keep the ball low avoiding many of the in-play hazards and his accuracy is impeccable. It’s not like he stunk it up last week shooting 1-under with a second-round 68. Following his win here in 2014 he has a runner-up and fifth among his four top-11 showings. He’s also 15 for 15 since the 2004 edition.

Rory McIlroy +952

Is it too much of a cliché to keep leaning on the favorite? I’ll give Rory a pass after last week’s effort hoping maybe he learned a thing or two along the way. Making his debut at Colonial he finished nine shots off the lead. He’s playing Harbour Town for the first time since 2009 when he was in his teens. He entered last week having finished in the top five of every start this season. I expect him to be on top of his game this time.

Jon Rahm +1798

This guy just doesn’t miss the cut and that makes last week’s result even more alarming. Most of the players were in the same position after the hiatus. Rahm worked out the kinks and he should be among the leaders this week. Still, there is a stacked field ahead of him and I’m not sure one event is going to do the trick. And to make things dicey for the Spaniard is that he’s making his debut at Harbour Town, which isn’t the easiest of courses. I’m going to look elsewhere for a better value pick.

Sungjae Im +2886

I was concerned about how the break would affect Im. No problems on his front. For a guy who likes to play a lot of golf, you’d figure the shutdown would hurt him more than anyone. Im was in fine form before the stoppage and he looked good last week shooting 11-under for a T10. It didn’t look like the time off hurt his game.

Course: Harbour Town Golf Links – 7,099 yards, Par 71

Consistently ranked among one of the top courses in America, Harbour Town is also up there as one of the layouts the PGA Tour pros play on a yearly basis. While the track is short by Tour standards and a number of players in the field have attacked the course in the past, it’s still a difficult test even for the best golfers. Accuracy and positioning off the tee are paramount at Harbour Town with its narrow corridors and tree-lined fairways. Tee shots that land in the fairway could still be obstructed by overhanging trees, so luck is always important here. Another test is hitting the greens, which are among the smallest targets on Tour. Don’t expect a lot of eagles and the birdie rate is low on this layout making par a good friend of the field.
