RBC Heritage Golf Matchups

Following the first major of the season is a tough act, but the RBC Heritage has done a nice job over the years and is back at it with a strong field ready to navigate Harbour Town Golf Links this week. Several players make the short trek from Augusta to Hilton Head S.C., including Collin Morikawa, who emerged as the betting favorite in the outright market. In all, five of the top-10 players in the world are scheduled to peg it up with nine past winners slotted among the field. Defending champ and three-time winner Stewart Cink is in the lineup as is Webb Simpson, who triumphed here in 2020 with a tournament record 22-under 262. A strong field of players makes for intriguing matchups. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete list of round and tournament matchup betting odds when you’re ready to place a wager.

Need to Know

Serving as host since the tournament’s inception in 1969, Harbour Town Golf Links isn’t considered long by Tour standards at over 7,100 yards, but it is tricky and the tree-lined fairways can play havoc on missed tee shots, even ones that land on the fairway. Accuracy will be tested on approach with the greens some of the smallest on Tour. Also, with its location along the coast we could also have wind come into play, making things even more difficult. Frequently named as one of the best courses, Harbour Town has changed little over the years giving players a chance to adapt. Simpson had the lowest 72-hole score ever in this event in 2020 and Cink’s 19-under 265 last year was third lowest.

RBC Heritage Matchup Picks

Stewart Cink +113 vs. Charles Howell III

Always looking for value how about backing a veteran who knows the intricacies of the Harbour Town layout? And having three titles over a two-decade span isn’t bad either. It might be much to ask Cink to deliver another title, but taking him at plus odds on a layout that’s yielded him six top-10s during his career isn’t a reach. And we saw the veteran have a career resurgence last season that’s continued, landing him a T7 a few backs at the Valspar.

Webb Simpson -105 vs. Sungjae Im

I’m not sure if anyone has been as good as Simpson at Harbour Town. He said this is one of his favorite courses and he’s backed that up with solid career numbers. He finished T16 or better in eight of his past 11 starts in this event, including the last five. He notched a scoring record two years ago and followed that with a top-10 in his 2021 title defense. He’s just too good at this joint to pass on, so I’m not going to.

Corey Conners -120 vs. Joaquin Niemann

It appears as though Conners has figured things out, which is why I have no issues backing him in this matchup. Coming off a T6 last week, his third straight top-10 in the Masters, Conners is bursting with confidence. And we’ve seen him get better and better on this track giving me confidence in him. He placed among the top-25 in 2020 and was in contention last year before settling for T4. And his form has been top notch over the last five events.

Dustin Johnson +105 vs. Shane Lowry

Just like in any sport, golfers are streaky. Johnson had an epic run a few years ago that vaulted him to the No. 1 world ranking and a record setting performance in the 2020 Masters. He’s settled down a bit, but he’s still as solid as they get. He raised the bar for himself which is why he’s at plus odds in this matchup. And DJ has something to prove at this lot after his closing meltdown in 2019 cost him. Still, he’s gone 4 for 4 since with three top-20s, but that Sunday 77 a few years ago sits uneasy with him.

Collin Morikawa +106 vs. Justin Thomas

I’m a fan of Thomas but you have to wager with your head and not your heart, which is why I’m backing Morikawa in this battle. Morikawa has yet to win this season but he’s been as strong as anybody, except for Scottie Scheffler, with six top-10s in eight starts. He’s coming off a solo fifth at Augusta, his third top-5 in six starts. He was second entering the final round here last year settling for a T7 in just his second start. Getting a player of his caliber at plus odds is a gift.
