RBC Heritage Golf Matchups

Following the first major of the season is a tough act, but the RBC Heritage has done a nice job over the years and is back at it with a stronger field than we’ve seen in the past with an upgrade to a designated event. With its new status on the PGA Tour, Masters champ Jon Rahm will make the short trip to Hilton Head and Scottie Scheffler will peg it up for the first time at Harbour Town Golf Links with both among the favorites to lift the hardware. And Jordan Spieth is back to defend the title he won last year over Patrick Cantlay in a playoff. In all seven of the world’s top 10 players are included in the field with Rory McIlroy withdrawing earlier in the week and Will Zalatoris out with an injury. The loaded field offers up several intriguing matchups which to wager on. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete list of round and tournament matchup betting odds when you’re ready to place a wager.

Need to Know

Serving as host since the tournament’s inception in 1969, Harbour Town Golf Links isn’t considered long by Tour standards at just over 7,200 yards, but it is tricky and the tree-lined fairways can play havoc on missed tee shots, even ones that land on the fairway. Accuracy will be tested on approach with the greens some of the smallest on Tour. Also, with its location along the coast we could also have wind come into play, making things even more difficult. Frequently named as one of the best courses, Harbour Town has changed little over the years giving players a chance to adapt. Webb Simpson had the lowest 72-hole score ever in this event in 2020 and Stewart Cink’s 19-under a year later was third lowest. Those are the exception and not the norm, however, with seven of the previous 10 winners at 13-under or lower.

RBC Heritage Matchup Picks

Max Homa +108 vs. Jordan Spieth

It pains me to do this since I’m a Spieth fan, but mention of fatigue and mental exhaustion after the Masters had me wondering just how committed he’s going to be to defending his title. So instead I’ll go with Homa at plus odds since I’m always searching for value picks in my matchups. And you can’t argue since Homa made the cut in all 11 starts racking up six top-10s including a pair of victories. A closing 78 plunged him down the Masters leaderboard but his overall game has been impressive.

Rickie Fowler +100 vs. Si Woo Kim

Failing to qualify for the Masters was another blow for Fowler, but his game has been trending in the right direction. He hasn’t missed a cut since the Shriners back in October racking up seven top-20s in 10 starts since. Harbour Town hasn’t been kind to Rickie Fowler over the years but with a new found swing and a confidence we haven’t seen from him in a while, I’ll back him at even money in this duel.

J.T. Poston +110 vs. Chris Kirk

Being from this neck of the woods has been a boon for Poston in past visits to Harbour Town. He earned a podium finish last year closing with a 63 to miss the playoff by one swing. He also has two additional top-10s in his four appearances. Recent has been good enough to suggest another strong outing is in store. He placed among the top 35 at Augusta and he has seven top-25s included among his 10 paydays. And at plus odds he’s a solid value pick.

Corey Conners +106 vs. Russell Henley

I went back and forth on this one before settling on the better price and history at Harbour Town. I did back Henley in the outright which I guess makes me a hypocrite for going against him in this matchup. Conners is only a few weeks removed from a win at the Texas Open and three starts with finishes of T21 or better on this lot makes him a solid wager. And besides, if Henley does win the outright I get more than enough returned to cover the setback here.

Sam Burns -110 vs. Tom Kim

Burns was on the first page of the leaderboard at the turn last week in Augusta, a scintillating start after capturing the crown at the WGC Match Play. The run came to a halt suddenly, though, with a third round 78 that he couldn’t recover from. Still, a rebound 72 showed he’s still on run of form and a top-10 at Harbour Town a few year ago is a boost to keep the good times rolling.
