PGA Tour Betting – ATT Pebble Beach Pro Am Matchup Odds

The Monterey Peninsula and breathtaking Pebble Beach Golf Links play host to this week’s stop on the PGA Tour, the ATT Pebble Beach Pro Am. The pro am format increases the number of players and requires the field to compete over three different courses with a cut after the third round. Sunday’s final round takes place on the iconic Pebble Beach layout. Phil Mickelson is back after recording his record-tying fifth title last year. OWGR No. 5 Dustin Johnson is the highest ranked player in the field and is listed as the betting favorite at online sportsbooks. Both golfers are featured in several tournament matchups. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete list of matchup betting odds when you’re ready to place a wager.

Need to Know

Along with Pebble Beach the field will also have to contend with the Monterey Peninsula Course and Spyglass Hill over the first three days. All three are short with only Spyglass Hill (7,035) playing over 7,000 yards. Distance off the tee is not a factor, which brings the field closer together. However, the courses seem to fit certain players. The Monterey layout is regarded as the easiest of the three producing more eagles and allowing players to make up strokes. And with the cut after 54 holes, players can absorb a poor round and still be in contention for Sunday. Those making it to Sunday get 36 holes on Pebble Beach, a 6,816-yard, par-72 layout that’s the shortest on Tour. That doesn’t mean it’s easy, though. Approach shots have to find small greens that are surrounded by strategically placed bunkers through coastal winds. Last week was favorable on my matchups with a 2-1 record and two ties. I’ll look to keep winning this week with these selections.

ATT Pebble Beach Pro Am Matchup Picks

Phil Mickelson +124 vs. Brandt Snedeker

Given Mickelson’s history at Pebble Beach and last week’s satisfying result, I feel like I’m losing money if I don’t throw down on Lefty. It’s been a bit of a scramble for Phil since winning his fifth Pebble Beach title 12 months ago, but a T3 last week in Saudi Arabia was a step in the right direction. And he’s headed to a place where he thrives. Along with his record tying number of wins Lefty also has a pair of runner-up and third-place showings, and he’s a big fan of the poa annua greens. At plus-odds in this matchup Lefty is too good to pass up.

Max Homa -105 vs. Alex Noren

Homa checks a lot of boxes for a positive result this week, but you never know how the golf Gods will respond. He’s made the cut in his last five starts compiling three top 10s in that run. It started with a T5 in Japan last November and included a T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open and a T6 in Phoenix last week. He’s also familiar with the Pebble Beach and pro am format after a top-10 showing here last year. Check, check and check. Give me some Homa!

Dustin Johnson -160 vs. Patrick Cantlay

Johnson is a big favorite in this matchup which makes me second-guess taking him against a quality golfer. However, there is a reason for the discrepancy in odds. DJ’s been really good in this event with a pair of wins and an additional five top-5s in 12 starts. He also got primed for one of his favorite stops with a runner-up in Saudi Arabia last week. Travel may be a concern, but DJ’s game certainly isn’t. And with Cantlay’s so-so showings here this is an easy pick.

Daniel Berger -102 vs, Jordan Spieth

There are two ways to look at this matchup: Spieth’s massive slump will cost him again even though he’s had success and a title (2017) at Pebble Beach. Or maybe a return to the California coast will serve as inspiration. I like Spieth and I truly hope he figures things out, but I can’t trust him right now. While Spieth was missing the cut in Phoenix, Berger impressed with a T9 and has his own success here, though on a smaller scale. His only start at Pebble Beach resulted in a T10 back in 2015.

Matthew Fitzpatrick -115 vs. Viktor Hovland

We haven’t heard much from Hovland since his impressive run to start his pro career. That doesn’t mean he’s gotten worse, rather the fields in bigger events are more difficult to overcome. Fitzpatrick on the other hand has been the tortoise in the race. He’s been solid over the last year and has seven top-10s in his last 12 starts worldwide with several near misses on the Euro circuit. MC here last year, but he’s over the wide-eyed look from his tournament debut.
