Fort Worth Invitational Preview, Odds and Predictions

2018 Forth Worth Invitational Odds preview Spreads

Four of the world’s top 10 golfers are in the field for the Fort Worth Invitational which begins on Thursday, with Jordan Spieth listed as the favorite. Spieth is once again the top betting choice even though he still hasn’t figured out his putting problems. Jon Rahm and Justin Rose decided to play this event instead of playing the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship, and they are the next two choices in the betting odds. Let’s look at the odds and predictions for the Fort Worth Invitational.

Odds Analysis

Jordan Spieth +800

There is no getting around the record of Spieth in this event, as he has a win in 2016, two ties for 2nd, a tie for 7th and a tie for 14th. The problem with backing Spieth right now in this event, or in any other event, is that he is completely overvalued. Spieth simply has lost his way with his putter and as I say every time Spieth is entered in an event, I am not taking him until he figures things out.

Jon Rahm +1200

Rahm nearly won this event last year but couldn’t make a birdie on the last hole to force a playoff. This course would not seem to favor Rahm, but Rahm said last year that he really likes Colonial, as it reminds him of playing in Spain. He is a lot better bet to win this event than Spieth.

Justin Rose +1800

Rose is oftentimes in contention, but he hasn’t really won much recently. He has made all four cuts at Colonial previously and he has the talent to win this tournament. I really don’t know what to make of Rose at these odds, so he is probably a pass for me.

Rickie Fowler +1800

Fowler is once again overvalued, as he contends a lot, but rarely wins. He has seven top 25 finishes this season, but again, he simply doesn’t win often enough to be a top choice.

Webb Simpson +2000

Was THE PLAYERS the turning point for Simpson? He has played well this season and the win at THE PLAYERS was extremely impressive. I don’t back players to win two straight that often, so Simpson is probably a pass.

Jimmy Walker +2800

Walker loves playing in Texas and his game is trending in the right way. He has a fourth, a tie for 2nd and a tie for 6th in his last three events. He tied for 10th in this event four years ago.

Zach Johnson +4000

I can’t ignore Johnson at this price, as he won this event in 2010 and 2012. He has made all 11 previous cuts at Colonial. He loves this course and it is not of the question he could contend this week and we get him at big odds.

Kevin Kisner +4000

The defending champ has some really attractive odds at +4000. He has finished in the top 10 in each of the last three years in this event. He really likes the small greens on this course and putts well enough to take advantage.

Chesson Hadley +5000

I think it is only a matter of time before Hadley gets a win. He has five top 10 finishes this season and he has solid stats for this event with a 14th on the PGA Tour in fairway proximity and he is 17th in strokes gained putting.

Course: Colonial Country Club is a par 70 that measures just 7,209 yards. It has been part of the PGA Tour schedule since 1946. It features tight fairways and a number of doglegs, so it is all about finding fairways and setting up good approaches. Last year it was Kevin Kisner shooting a 4-under par 66 in the final round to hold off Spieth, Rahm and Sean O’Hair.
