BMW Championship Odds to Win

The FedExCup Playoffs continue this week with the top-70 golfers in the point standings making their way to Olympia Fields Country Club for the BMW Championship. Six players moved into the field with their performances at The Northern Trust. They were, however, overshadowed by the dominant play of Dustin Johnson, who shot 30-under par to win by 11 swings. After that awesome display of golf and taking the No. 1 spot in the OWGR, DJ is the favorite on the opening line. Jon Rahm hit the board as the second favorite and those two are the only players with better than 10/1 odds. There is no cut this week so every player has four rounds to make a statement ahead of the season-ending Tour Championship. Odds Analysis

Bryson DeChambeau +1319

He’s been inconsistent over the last month with a pair of MCs in his last four starts, but you can’t argue with the success he’s enjoyed all season. Sprinkle in the title in the 2015 U.S. Amateur that was played at this venue and Bryson is a rock-solid pick. The layout fits his booming game as long as he controls things. And let’s face it he wasn’t required to go all out last week. With the end of the season upon us and stakes high for positioning in the Tour Championship, look for DeChambeau to show why’s he’s worthy of the second seed.

Scottie Scheffler +3336

This week gives Scheffler a chance to exorcise past demons and continue with his solid run of play. He didn’t impress on the Olympia Fields layout during his collegiate career and he missed the cut at the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Those are well in the past and Scheffler has been one of the best recently. Other than DJ, he was the best ball-striker in last week’s field helping him to his second straight T4. Capping off his rookie of the year season with a win would be rewarding. And who can forget that magnificent 59 he signed last week?

Harris English +4015

Having something to play for can be great motivation. You might recall English didn’t qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour Finals last year settling for conditional status on the PGA Tour. He’s quietly put together one of the best comeback seasons and is someone to consider on an outright wager. He has six top-10s in 18 overall starts placing among the top-23 in each of his last six. He took second last week punctuating the season with his best showing. He’s hot and confident so why not go up another spot?

Xander Schauffele +1820

If I keep backing him he’ll eventually come through, right? Well, I’m going back to the X-man this week because I really feel like it’s his time to breakout with a victory. He has the tools to be successful on this layout. Schauffele ranks sixth on Tour in GIR, he hits the ball on average nearly 305 yards off the tee, and his accuracy is good. He doesn’t have to worry about the cut line this week, but he’s 8 for 8 since the restart with six top-20s, including a T3 at the Schwab and a T6 at the WGC FedEx St. Jude.

Matt Kuchar +9767

I had to look further down the odds board and found Kuchar at an astonishing price. He has some work to do to reach the top 30 so you can expect to see his best. He’s one of the better putters on Tour and he has impeccable accuracy, two areas that will come in handy on this course. He earned his best finish since the restart with last week’s T18, which is why he’s available at his current odds. He’s probably a better play in an alternate market, but dropping a few bills could yield a big payout.

Course: Olympia Fields Country Club – 7,366 yards, Par 70

We haven’t seen the North Course at Olympia Fields Country Club on Tour since it hosted the 2003 U.S. Open, so it will be a new look for many. This may be the time for Bryson DeChambeau to make up for last week’s missed cut. He won the 2015 U.S Amateur that was hosed on this track. At 7,366 yards it’s a long par 70 that negates big hitters with tree lined fairways and four-inch rough. The course will be a stiff test for the best golfers. The first hole is a monster as one of two par 5s that play over 600 yards. It’s safe to say we won’t have a repeat of last week when DJ carded a 30-under.
