BMW Championship Golf Odds

The FedExCup Playoffs continue this week with the top-50 golfers in the point standings making their way to Illinois and the Olympia Fields Country Club for the BMW Championship. One of four golfers with shorter than 12/1 odds on the opening PGA line, Patrick Cantlay is the two-time defending BMW champion. While Cantlay has been hot in this tournament nobody is hotter currently than Lucas Glover, who won his second straight event after holding off Cantlay in a playoff to with the FedExCup St. Jude Championship last week. That hasn’t prevented the top three from topping the odds board, though. Scottie Scheffler opened as the betting favorite with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm next in line. Rahm emerged victorious in this event in 2020 the last time it was contested at Olympia Fields. BookMaker.eu has a complete updated list of betting odds when you’re ready to make a wager.

Odds Analysis

Patrick Cantlay +1103

Winning a tournament three times in a row is hard but not impossible. Cantlay has been dominant at the BMW with titles in the previous two editions, which both took place on different properties. He finished 27-under beating Bryson DeChambeau in a playoff at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland in 2021. Last year Cantlay was one swing better than Scott Stallings at the Wilmington Country Club. He was also T12 at Olympia Fields in 2020 and is coming off a playoff loss at the FedEx St. Jude Championship putting him in fine form for a three-peat.

Corey Conners +4862

There are only 50 players competing and anything can happen. Conners was in the mix last week finishing T6 and needs another strong finish to guarantee his spot in the Tour Championship. Currently No. 25 in the FedExCup standings, Conners is a good fit for the healthy layout with power and precision off the tee strong traits. His ball-striking ability will also help on greens that are also unfamiliar.

Tommy Fleetwood +2356

He seems to be getting closer to that initial PGA Tour win and eventually that day will come. But in the meantime Fleetwood just keeps plugging away with solid performances that also make him a target in alternate markets. It doesn’t matter where he plays Fleetwood just has success. His T3 at TPC Southwind was his fifth top 10 in his last six starts and his eighth of the season. He’s been playing magical golf the last few months and that should continue with so much at stake.

Russell Henley +5063

I’m going further down the odds board with several of my picks because there are other things at play. The favorites already have spots in the Tour Championship secured where the guys on the fringe will be playing with more sense of urgency. Henley sits right in the middle at No. 15 following his T6 last week that followed a co-runner-up at the Wyndham He’s playing solid golf and boasts a top 25 from his visit here in 2020.

Max Homa +3158

A brief lull in the middle of the season was just what Homa needed to reset his expectations. And even then he wasn’t that bad. Four MCs in a span of seven starts was the worst stretch of the year for him, but he also landed a pair of top 10s in there so he was doing something right. Since then he’s gotten previously better with his results going T21-T12-T10 and finishing that off with a T6 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He definitely belongs with two wins among his 10 top 10s this season.

Course: Olympia Fields Country Club – 7,366 yards, Par 70

The top 30 in the FedExCup standings after this event move on, so there will be some players trying to make a move at the Olympia Fields North Course. At 7,366 yards it’s a long par 70 that negates big hitters with tree-lined fairways and thick rough. The course will be a stiff test for the best golfers. The first hole is a monster as one of two par 5s that play over 600 yards. The course is hosting for the second time after making its debut in 2020. Rahm outlasted Dustin Johnson in a playoff with both players at 4-under 276 after 72 holes. Only five players finished under par in that tournament showing you just how difficult the layout is.
