LIV Golf Singapore Matchups Odds

Playing consecutive weeks for the first time this season and looking to build off the success of the visit to Adelaide, LIV Golf heads to Southeast Asia for LIV Golf Singapore. In front of enthusiastic sellout crowds at The Grange last week, Talor Gooch built a 10-shot lead after two rounds and although things got mildly interesting, he became the fourth titlist in as many events topping the field by three swings. The top of the odds board in the outright market looks familiar with Dustin Johnson emerging as the favorite followed by Cameron Smith and the League’s only two-time winner Brooks Koepka. Brooks followed up his first win this season in Orlando finishing 19th in Adelaide and was overshadowed by brother Chase, who aced the Watering Hole at The Grange sending the crowd into a frenzy. Need to Know

After a twirl around a layout measuring less than 7,000 yards last week, the field makes a switch to the 7,406 yard Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club. Some veteran European Tour players have experienced the course in the past with Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter previous winners of the Singapore Open, which was hosted by Sentosa from 2005 to 2022. However, those wins came before a major renovation to the property in 2020. Yardage was added yet it’s still wide open off the tee with generous fairways. Numerous bunkers and plenty of water serve as a defense, though they are unlikely to play a significant role in the scoring. Sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Japan Tour from 2016 to 2022, the Singapore Open saw five of six winners score 12-under or better. In 2018 Garcia finished five shots clear of the field with a 14-under 270.

LIV Golf Singapore Matchup Picks

Peter Uihlein +137 vs. Mito Pereira

I was a little stunned when I saw the posted price for Uihlein. Being one of the most consistent players in LIV Golf he has the goods for success on this track. Uihlein is the only player to finish among the top 10 in all four events this season shooting 68 or lower in 10 of 12 rounds he’s played. He’s making his debut at Sentosa but is familiar with similar courses from his time in the DP World Tour. And when the golf game is going well it doesn’t matter where you play.

Phil Mickelson +118 vs. Bryson DeChambeau

Off the tee the course sets up well for both players. DeChambeau is one of the longest hitters around, however he’s been in a bigger slump than Mickelson, and Lefty seemingly figured a few things out with his startling finish at the Masters. He followed a closing 65 at Augusta with three sub-par rounds last week leading to his best finish of the season. And Mickelson looks more comfortable on the course despite his age. Lefty also has experience here with this being his seventh start in Singapore.

Louis Oosthuizen +104 vs. Brendan Steele

Going with another plus-odds matchup pick, I’m leaning toward Oosthuizen. It’s been hit or miss for the South African with a finish of 42 at Mayakoba and Tucson. In between those starts he earned a top 5 in Tucson. He had his best score of the season last week at 12-under, a nice effort after retiring following the opening round at Augusta. And I still can’t forget what he did in major championships a few years ago finishing as runner-up twice, something he also accomplished at Sentosa in 2012.

Harold Varner III -114 vs. Dean Burmester

It seems like every week one player not expected to do much or even struggling with his game stands out more than others for some odd reason. I’ve wagered on hunches in the past and it paid off a few times. This week my gut is telling me Varner is going to do something special. He may not win the outright, but you never know. I am backing him in this matchup, though, because his game is a fit for the course, especially off the tee. A big hitter, Varner saw other parts of his game come together last week leading to three sub-par rounds and his lowest score of the season. I’m backing him with those trends continuing.

Patrick Reed +119 vs. Dustin Johnson

It’s not always a good move to go against the favorite, but Reed is in a much better spot after a strong showing at Augusta. That was preceded by top 5 in Orlando and followed with a podium finish last week in Australia where he was 14-under over the last 36 holes. He’s also gone 4-under or better in six of his last seven LIV rounds carrying a hot bag to Singapore.
