LIV Golf Orlando Matchups Odds

With nearly 40 percent of the field scheduled to tee off in the Masters next week, LIV Golf Orlando is a final tuneup for guys like Dustin Johnson, Joaquin Niemann and Cameron Smith, who also happen to be the top three on the outright betting board again this week. One thing is certain about the second-year league and that’s its unpredictability. We’ve seen nine different individual titlists in as many events and some big time underdogs have prevailed, like Danny Lee last time out in Tucson. Going off around 65/1, Lee emerged in a four-man playoff for his first professional victory since 2015. Much like last week when the field attacked a course rarely used for pro tournaments, Orange County National just outside Orlando was last used on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020 with Mito Periera earning a top 20. Need to Know

Stretched to 7,297 yards at par 71, the Crooked Cat Course at Orange County National offers players elevation changes, large landing surfaces and open fairways to give it a links style feel. Toss in the natural elements and players with a history of solid links play might have an advantage. Much like Tucson, most in the field have no experience on the property, though that shouldn’t be a detriment since the course isn’t unusual. A number of holes are guarded by strategically placed bunkers and water is present on few holes. There is room for error so expect big hitters to let it rip off the tee. With 18 players set to play in Augusta next week and most of them hovering around the top of the outright odds market, will those players be more interested in a win or sharpening their skills ahead of a major championship? I rebounded in Tucson to win three of five matchups and look to continue that strong spell this week.

LIV Golf Orlando Matchup Picks

Cameron Smith -105 vs. Joaquin Niemann

Smith stumbled a bit last week finishing in the middle of the pack and he rarely has two bad starts in a row. Additionally he checks all the boxes for success on this layout with his long accurate drives and excellent putting. Use of the flat stick will be important this week with large greens providing birdie chances, and I fully expect Smith to be locked in. And getting him in this price range is an added bonus.

Talor Gooch -101 vs. Charles Howell III

Howell is this season’s version of Gooch, only he has a victory in the season opener. Gooch had several close calls last year but never cashed the $4 million check. He was in contention in Mayakoba until a closing 76 dropped him off the pace and behind Howell. In Tucson Gooch showed the consistency that made him a threat in every 2022 event, though the end result wasn’t to his liking. I like Gooch and his price is in my range so backing him is a win.

Matthew Wolff -101 vs. Sergio Garcia

This is a perfect time for Wolff to sneak up and snatch a matchup victory. Undoubtedly Garcia will be looking ahead to his Masters visit and working on his game. Wolff, meanwhile, doesn’t have to be consumed with that outside distraction and can focus on his game that’s been pretty good this season. Wolff finished 12th in Tucson, the fifth time he’s placed there or lower in eight LIV Golf starts. And his consistent putting has been a major reason giving him an edge in this matchup.

Peter Uihlein -115 vs. Jason Kokrak

He didn’t finish second in Tucson, but Uihlein had another strong showing to claim a top 10 keeping a consistent streak alive. In his last five starts he has three runner-up showings along with his T10 in Arizona. He’s been one of the best in LIV Golf over that span and has done just about everything but win. With Uihlein playing so well it’s hard to fade him, so I won’t. Instead I’ll back him like I did in Tucson with hopes of adding another matchup win to my tally.

Bryson DeChambeau +125 vs. Dean Burmester

I just couldn’t resist backing DeChambeau at his price in this matchup. The longest hitter in LIV Golf and quite possibly all off professional golf, DeChambeau will get opportunities to show off his distance with little resistance from a course that’s forgiving off the tee. Now, taking advantage of those shots is another thing entirely, but when one part of the game starts to work the others naturally follow and DeChambeau should put on a display from the tee box.
