Shot Clock Masters Preview, Odds and Predictions

2018 Golf Shot Clock Masters Odds Online

The European Tour is trying something a little bit different this week, with the Shot Clock Masters in Austria. Players will have to play every shot within 40 seconds, so there will be no standing around and taking forever on shots that we sometimes see on both the European and PGA Tours. If players don’t hit the shot within the time limit they will be penalized one shot. Very few top players are playing in this event, as the U.S. Open is next week. Diamond Country Club has hosted this event that used to be called the Lyoness Open and Austrian Open, eight times. Let’s look at the odds and predictions for the Shot Clock Masters.

Odds Analysis

Dean Burmester +1400

The field this week is not strong so someone has to be favored and oddsmakers chose Burmester. He tied for 38th in this event two years ago. He did tie for 12th at Wentworth and tied for 30th last week in Italy, but is that enough to make him a favorite this week?

Erik Van Rooyen +1600

You can almost say the same thing about Van Rooyen that you can about Burmester. He has played okay this season with six finishes of tie for 21st or better. He tied for 20th at Wentworth and then tied for 42nd last week in Italy.

Lee Slattery +1800

Perhaps Slattery can build off his third place finish last week. He led after 54-holes but lost his caddie to injury on the back nine. He does have a couple of top ten finishes in the past at Diamond.

Miguel Angel Jimenez +2000

Is there still something left for Jimenez? He calls Vienna home, so he should feel comfortable and he will get a lot of crowd support. He has played well on the Champions Tour and this field is weak enough that he can contend. I think he has some value at odds of +2000.

Ashun Wu +2500

I think you can make a better case for Wu winning this week than any of the favorites. He won this event in 2016 and he tied for 10th last year. He tied for 7th in the China Open and he also made the cut the last two weeks.

Paul Waring +2500

Why not Waring at a nice price? He tied for 5th in this tournament in 2013 and he was in the running last year until fading over the weekend. He was playing well this season until missing the cut last week in Italy.

Mikko Korhonen +2500

A player who has a lot of experience on this course is Korhonen and he has five top 25 finishes. He did miss the cut last week in Italy but had played well before that missed cut.

Nino Bertasio +4000

A longshot this week for me is Bertasio who tied for 19th in this event two years ago and then tied for 10th last year. He faced a lot of pressure last week to perform well in front of his home fans and missed the cut, so perhaps he bounces back this week.

Richard McEvoy +8000

McEvoy has five top ten finishes in 13 trips to Austria on the European and Champions Tours. He tied for 3rd and tied for 5th the last two years. He could be worth a shot at a big price.

Course: Diamond Country Club is a par 72 that measures 7,417 yards. It features water hazards on have of the holes. The course was actually built on a site that was bombed in World War II and there are still structures on the course from the war. Dylan Frittelli won this event last year, shooting 12-under par, while Ashun Wu won it two years ago shooting 13-under par.
