DP World Tour Championship Golf Odds

Fittingly the Race to Dubai ends in Dubai with the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates putting a wrap on the 2021 European Tour season. The event lost some of its luster with big name European stars Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland opting out. That doesn’t take anything away from what’s at stake, though. R2D points leader Collin Morikawa is in prime position to claim the prize and is listed as the second favorite on the outright odds behind Rory McIlroy. There have been just five winners of this tournament over the previous nine editions with defending champ Matthew Fitzpatrick along with McIlroy each claiming a pair of titles. The field consists of 65 golfers with no cut, so there’s always a chance. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete list of betting odds and to place your wager.

Odds Analysis

Tommy Fleetwood +2000

It’s hard not to look at the favorites as potential outright winners. Morikawa and McIlroy are playing solid golf and Rory’s resume at this tournament is impeccable. But their price holds no value so I’ll drop to the next tier and take a peek at Fleetwood, who is an inviting pick with longer odds. And the fact that he’s playing well after scuffling most of the year is promising. Add that to his history in this event and I like his chances. He finished T13 or better in his last four ET starts and has three top-10s, including a runner-up in 2019, in his last five starts here.

Garrick Higgo +6600

You can’t deny that Higgo is a rising star. He showed that with a pair of Euro circuit titles and a PGA Tour win close together. However, recent struggles have oddsmakers backing off which is why the South African has an enticing price. He can smack the ball and that will help on this layout, and I expect Higgo to be dialed in. He claimed a T14 here last year that came on the heels of a poor run of form and there’s a good chance he does it again.

Robert MacIntyre +5500

MacIntyre’s best golf has taken place in the desert and there’s no reason that won’t continue this week. During the Middle East swing at the beginning of the year he grabbed a podium finish in the Dubai Desert Classic, was T16 in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and placed among the top-30 in Saudi Arabia. He also finished T24 last week in the AVIV Dubai Championship earning a reputation as a desert golfer. He was T23-T14 the last two years here with one poor round preventing better things.

Danny Willett +6600

The last time we saw Willett he was carving up the Old Course at St. Andrews on his way to a 2-shot victory in the Dunhill Links Championship. And he returns to a joint that yielded one of his eight ET titles. I was a bit surprised to find him with such a high price tag and immediately marked him as a value pick. I guess oddsmakers aren’t too keen on him since he had two MCs and a T71 in three starts before the Dunhill. But a win most recently and a solid track record that includes a win and two additional top-5s in five previous starts here has me jumping on the Englishman.

Will Zalatoris +2800

I would have liked the price to be a bit higher but I’ll back Zalatoris nonetheless in an event that should be right in his wheelhouse. He’s cooled off since a blistering start to his career and makes the trek after two MCs and a T54 in his last three PGA Tour starts. He played a few months back on the Euro Tour with a T26 in the Scottish Open and he has the goods to go low on a course that isn’t penal.

Course: Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates - 7,675-yards, Par-72

For the 13th straight year the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates will host this event. And we’ve seen low scores in the past with all but one winner scoring 15-under or better with four of those in the -20s. The track stretches to nearly 7,700 yards and forgiving fairways play well to big hitters. There are also large greens that help plenty of shots. The entire layout offers a variety of intriguing holes and requires every stick in the bag. The course is known for its finishing stretch with a birdie opportunity on 15 and the island green on 17 that calls for an accurate iron shot. And the 18th asks golfers to play with a water hazard that runs the entire length of the hole.
