Open de Espana Matchup Odds and Picks

open de espana odds

Jon Rahm is a solid favorite to win this week’s Open de Espana on the European Tour. Rahm is the only player listed at single digit odds, as he is listed at 4-1, while Rafa Cabrera Bello is the second choice at 12-1. It has been almost a month since we had a European Tour event, so we’ll look to get back into action with a winning week. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Open de Espana.

Open de Espana Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. This event is huge for Spaniards, so it is no surprise that Rahm and Cabrera Bello are the top two betting choices. Cabrera Bello calls this event the “fifth Major” for Spaniards. This event will be played at Centro Nacional de Golf which is a pretty easy course. When the event was held at this course in 2007 it was Charl Schwartzel finishing 16-under par. When the Madrid Masters was held on this course in 209 it was Ross McGowan shooting 25-under par. Greens in regulation and putting are the two statistics to keep in mind for this week.

Jorge Campillo -130 vs. Eddie Pepperell

I think Campillo could be in the mix for the win this week. He is in the top 15 in the Race to Dubai this season. He played the 2009 Madrid Masters on this course and tied for 10th. He also played this event in 2012 and 2015 and finished in the top 10 each time. Pepperell got his big win at the Qatar Masters in February, but has not had much action since. I will take Campillo in this matchup.

Paul Dunne +145 vs. Rafa Cabrera Bello

This is a price play on Dunne who has played well on the PGA Tour this season. He tied for 16th in this event in 2016. Cabrera Bello hasn’t really played that well in his home country and I think the pressure may be too much for him this week. I will take Dunne at the plus price.

Matt Wallace -115 vs. Seungsu Han

Wallace won the Hero Indian Open and he has played well in Spain in the past including a tie for 18th at Valderrama. He goes against Han who has been up and down this season. I will lay the small price and take Wallace.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano -130 vs. Nicolas Colsaerts

I like Fernandez-Castano in this matchup, as he grew up in Madrid and he has played well in Spain throughout his career. He has moved to Florida but he has played pretty well with a couple of top 10 finishes on the Web.com Tour. He also tied for fourth in the Qatar Masters this season on the European Tour. Colsaerts is a bomber who doesn’t have the overall game to contend. I will take Fernandez-Castano in this matchup.

Marcus Kinhult -115 vs. Jordan Smith

It has been a rough season for Smith in his sophomore season on the European Tour. He has just one top 60 finish in six starts. Kinhult has been far more consistent and I will take him in this matchup.
