Omega European Masters Matchup Odds and Picks

Omega European Masters Matchup Odds

The European Tour is in Switzerland this week for the Omega European Masters where Matthew Fitzpatrick is listed as the clear favorite. This is a key week for European players, as Ryder Cup picks will be announced. Fitzpatrick is one of the players under consideration for a captain’s pick, although he probably won’t make the team. I am coming off a 3-2 week with the matchups in last week’s Made in Denmark. Let’s look at the odds and matchups for this week’s Omega European Masters.

Omega European Masters Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Golf Club Crans-Sur-Sierre has hosted this event on a regular basis and it is set in the Swiss Alps, which means it is a stunningly beautiful course. The course is short and it plays even shorter than the listed distance because of altitude, so distance is not a big factor. Accuracy off the tee and scrambling are two stats to consider for this week.

Matthew Fitzpatrick -185 vs. Matt Wallace

I know the price on Fitzpatrick is high, but it is hard to get a better matchup than this one. Fitzpatrick is an accurate player who won this event a year ago. Wallace won last week and he has been awful in the past coming off wins. He has missed the cut twice this season after his wins. I will lay the price and take Fitzpatrick in this matchup.

Danny Willett +115 vs. Ryan Fox

This course suits Willett who is a good scrambler. He won this event in 2015 and finished second in 2012. Fox is a big hitter whose length will be negated this week. I will take Willett at plus money in this matchup.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat -115 vs. Ross Fisher

Aphibarnrat tied for 16th in this event a year ago. He has an excellent short game and he could contend this week. Fisher has been awful on this course, with five missed cuts in eight tries. I will take Kiradech in this matchup.

Aaron Rai -120 vs. Maximilian Kieffer

Rai is almost always accurate off the tee, so he should do really well on this short course. Kieffer inspires no confidence, so I will lay the small price and take Rai in this matchup.

Miguel Angel Jimenez -125 vs. Marcus Kinhult

Why not Jimenez this week? I had him in my odds preview as a longshot and I like him in this matchup. He won this event in 2010 and tied for 24th two years ago. He is in good form with a win on the Champions Tour and a tie for 5th last week. I will lay the small price and take Jimenez in this matchup.
