Odds Analysis

Alex Noren +900

Noren is having such a good year that he has to be considered even though this has not been his best tournament, missing the cut three times in five tries. His best finish is a tie for 38th last year. I think he is the best player in the field, but his record in Italy has me concerned.

Francesco Molinari +900

I almost never take a player to win in back-to-back weeks, so I am not backing Molinari. He has won this event twice in 17 tries and he sure played well last week, but again, I am not taking him.

Tommy Fleetwood +1100

I give Fleetwood a decent chance to win this week. He has finished tied for 7th and tied for 6th in this event the last two years. He could have been in contention last week if not for a 77 on Saturday.

Matthew Fitzpatrick +1800

I think Fitzpatrick has found his game again after a mini-slump. He tied for 14th at the Heritage and he tied for 8th last week at Wentworth. I would not be surprised to see him contend for the win this week.

Ross Fisher +2500

It is easy to like Fisher this week at these odds. He tied for 8th last week and he has played this event well with a tie for 2nd last year and a tie for 7th in 2014.

Paul Dunne +3500

I think Dunne could bounce back this week after missing the cut last week at Wentworth. He had four top ten finishes in five starts before last week’s debacle. He is known for a player who does well on tree lined courses, so I expect him to play well this week.

Alexander Bjork +5000

Why not Bjork at big odds? He played well in Spain, Morocco and China and he was okay last week. He led this tournament after the first round last year.

Matt Wallace +5000

One of my other longshots is Wallace who led this event last year before finishing in a tie for 4th. He has won twice in Italy on the Alps Tour.

Jorge Campillo +6600

Campillo tied for 7th in this event two years ago. He was rolling along until last week when he stumbled at Wentworth. I think he bounces back this week.
Course: The Italian Open has not been held at Gardagolf in 15 years, but many players are very familiar with the course including Matteo Manassero who learned to play the game at Gardagolf. The course plays just 7,201 yards and it has only three par 5 holes. It has four par 3 holes.
