European Tour Betting – Odds to Win AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

From the wildlife park of Leopard Creek last week to the idyllic island of Mauritius this week, the European Tour covers all the bases. This week’s playing of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open returns to Heritage Golf Club on the southern part of the island after the Four Seasons Resort in Anahita hosted last year. The two venues have shared hosting duties since the first playing in 2015. South African players have won the previous two editions at Heritage with Geroge Coetzee triumphing in 2015 and Dylan Fritelli in 2017. Coetzee opened as the third favorite at online sportsbooks behind Belgian stars Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete list of betting odds and to place your wager.

Odds Analysis

George Coetzee +1400

With his track record not only at Heritage but in this event, Coetzee is a good pick for an outright win. He claimed victory in 2015 and grabbed a top-10 two years later at Heritage. He also placed among the top-30 in two starts at the Four Seasons, so he’s clearly a fan of the island. By his own admission he didn’t play well last week and still finished T24 at Leopard Creek. Coetzee closed last season with a podium finish at the Spanish Open and won a Sunshine Tour event a few weeks ago proving his game is headed in the right direction.

Romain Langasque +2000

He makes his season debut coming off a strong last season that included 10 top-20s, six of which doubled as top-10s, to qualify for the DP World Tour Championship. The run started with a T23 at Anahita last year and Langasque also had a solo third at Heritage in 2017 when he finished two shots off the pace and led the field in GIR. He looks to be a good value pick at current odds.

Zander Lombard +2200

Another South African with ties to the island, Lombard has experience playing in blustery conditions, and he’s performed well with a runner-up at the Sicily Open and T6 at the Irish Open. So missing three cuts at this event is a tad surprising. He enters this week in fine form which gives me hope for a better showing. A T7 last week was preceded by a T8 at the Nedbank Challenge and a T17 at the Turkish Airlines Open moving him in the right direction.

Jaco Van Zyl +4000

Another South African golfer with island familiarity, Van Zyl has played better recently after injury and poor form had him struggling. A good sign was a T32 at the French Open and a more positive sign was a T14 last week at Leopard Creek. Makes his debut at Heritage but he was T12-T23 in two starts at Anahita.

Benjamin Hebert +2500

If his head’s in the right place Hebert could be a threat. He should be playing with a lot of confidence after three runner-up finishes last season. But just how much will three playoff losses affect him? He certainly has the game and now he just needs to get over the hump. A T2 at the Turkish Airlines Open got him to Dubai where he closed the season with a T38. Wipe the slate clean and start over is all he can do and Hebert has been around long enough to put the disappointment behind him.

Course: Heritage Golf Club – 6,986 yards, par-71

Hosting in odd numbered years Heritage Golf Club is back in the spotlight. It’s a short par 71 and with Mauritius being a vacation spot the track has a resort feel to it. The fairways are generous and unless you really go off line there are few hazards. However, if the ball is sprayed wide there is high grass and jungle foliage. It would behoove the field to club down and stay in play. Situated on a picturesque piece of land with mountains on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other, drastic elevation changes take place. The ninth and 18th tee boxes sit high above the fairway. Temperatures are expected to be in the 80s and the wind always is a factor on the island with sudden changes and unpredictable patterns.
