Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Matchup Odds and Picks

Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Matchups preview

Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm are the top betting choices to win the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open which begins on Thursday. The tournament is a good prep for the Open Championship in two weeks, as the course in County Donegal, Ireland is a links course. We are coming off a 3-1-1 week with the matchups at the Open de France, so we’ll look to continue the winning this week. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The course in Ireland is a links course that is greatly affected by the wind. If it is calm scores will be really good, but if it blows the scores will be bad. The early forecast calls for calm winds, so scoring is expected to be good. The course is a par 72 that measures nearly 7,500 yards. There are three par 3’s and three par 5’s.

Matthew Southgate -115 vs. Ryan Fox

Southgate is coming off a good final round last week in France that propelled him to a 5th place finish. He has done really well on links course in the past including two top five finishes in this event. I will take him in this matchup against Fox.

Chris Wood -115 vs. Kiradech Aphibarnrat

Wood had a good chance to win last week in France but let it get away late. He is known as a very good player on links courses and he should continue his strong form this week. He has three top tens in the Irish Open. Aphibarnrat has been awful in events like this, as he has missed the cut twice in the Irish Open, four times in the Scottish Open and four times in the Open Championship. I will take Wood in this matchup.

Haotong Li -115 vs. Peter Uihlein

Li has shown he can play well on links courses, as he was third at Royal Birkdale in last year’s Open Championship. He comes in playing well with three straight top 21 finishes. I know that Uihlein has played well in the U.S. this season, but I think Li is the better option in this matchup.

Thomas Detry -115 vs. Alexander Levy

This is simply a play against Levy who has been a bust of late, with five straight finishes outside of the top 50. He has four missed cuts and a withdrawal in this event. I will take Detry here.

Thomas Pieters -115 vs. Julian Suri

Pieters should do well this week with calm conditions and he had two top 20 finishes last month and a tie for 31st last week. Suri could have won last week in France but blew it and it is hard to see how he recovers for this week. He has never done well on links courses in the past. I will take Pieters in this matchup.
