Old School Meets New School
Pittsburgh has some serious talent at the skill positions as well as the home field advantage, but Minnesota has a tough defense. The Vikings played well offensively in its convincing season-opening victory over the Saints, and if they can consistently score points this year this could be a team that will be tough to beat. While there is a long way to go in the season, this is among the more interesting matchups of the week because of the high-end potential of each team....
The Saints have also started slowly after losing a game against the Vikings, and both sides are hoping to get on track. New England is on the road but has the more talented roster and should be favored to win this matchup. New Orleans is hoping to make a playoff push in 2017 and an 0-2 start would not be the way to harbor confidence early on.This contest in Week 2 of the regular season will go down Sunday, September 17, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Superdome....
The Raiders have a talented group and will face off with one of the worst teams in the NFL. Add in the location and this one has all the makings of a blowout. The Jets are trying to remain competitive despite a talent deficiency but it won’t be easy against a team that is explosive on the offensive side of the ball. This contest in Week 2 of the regular season will go down Sunday, September 17, 2017, at 4:05 p.m. ET at Oakland Alameda Coliseum....
After spending so many years in San Diego, it will be the Chargers’ regular season debut in Los Angeles and they will aim to put on a show for their new fans. Los Angeles made a valiant comeback attempt against the Broncos in their opener but lost by a field goal when their game-tying kick attempt as time ran out was deflected.Kickoff for this regular season Week 2 game is set for Sunday, September 17, 2017, at 4:05 p.m. ET at StubHub Stadium....
The Cowboys won 13 games last season and return most of the talent from that group. Quarterback Dak Prescott played well against the Giants and the defense flexed its muscle. Dallas is more well-rounded but the Broncos have an elite defense and the home field advantage, which is a solid combination. This game is setting up to be a classic between a pair of teams that plan to make a postseason run in a couple of months....
Expectations are high in Tampa Bay behind quarterback Jameis Winston and some key offseason additions, and they will make their debuts in this one. The Bears kept it close against the defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons at home last week, which is a good sign, but going on the road won’t be easy. The Bucs will be favored to take care of business and begin the season on a high note, albeit one week later than everybody else....
The Texans were embarrassed by the Jaguars, 29-7, while the Bengals were shut out by the Ravens, 20-0. Houston now has a quarterback controversy on its hands after Tom Savage was benched at halftime following a poor first two quarters. Deshaun Watson was a first-round pick in this year’s draft and it will be interesting to see if he gets the nod for this game. The Bengals’ quarterback situation is more settled but Andy Dalton had a horrific start against Baltimore and needs to get better fast to give his team a shot at the playoffs....
The Cardinals had a 17-9 third-quarter lead in Detroit but were dominated the rest of the way in a 35-23 loss. Arizona is hoping to return to the playoffs after making the NFC Championship game in 2015 and the offense needs to play much better than it showed in the opener. Both of these teams have a lot of question marks heading into this showdown....
Even though Cleveland fell to the Steelers to start the year, it was an encouraging showing as they hung around the entire contest and lost by just a field goal. The Browns aren’t going to be competing for a playoff spot this season but want to make incremental progress. It will be tough to win this game but remaining competitive would be a moral victory and could help result in a cover of the spread. The Ravens, meanwhile, would love for another blowout as it would put the rest of the AFC on notice that they are back as playoff contenders after a recent lull....
The Panthers are at home in this one and looked better in the first week. They will be solid favorites to move to 2-0 on the season as they look to get back to the 2015 form which got them to the Super Bowl. The Bills dominated on the ground against the Jets but Carolina’s defensive front is better and that will be an interesting matchup to watch. This matchup in Week 2 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, September 17, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at Bank of America Stadium....
The Kansas City Chiefs are riding high after an impressive season opening win over the defending champion New England Patriots. They will aim to keep up that momentum when they match up with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2 of the regular season....
The Jacksonville Jaguars were arguably the most pleasant surprise of the first week of the regular season, as they used a dynamic defense to upset the Houston Texans. They will aim to keep it rolling in another AFC South division matchup in Week 2 when they host the Tennessee Titans....
The Dallas Cowboys were one of the best teams in the NFL a season ago, riding the surprising play of Dak Prescott and the immediate stardom of Ezekiel Elliott to double digit wins. Many are expecting regression in 2017, while the New York Giants hope to surpass them and win the NFC East....
The New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings both fancy themselves playoff contenders in 2017, and have similar talent levels, albeit at different positions. They will face off in an interesting Week 1 matchup which could give some clarity about which one is more ready for primetime....
The Carolina Panthers looked discombobulated throughout the 2016 season, as they didn’t come close to returning to the Super Bowl after a magical 2015 run. Quarterback Cam Newton and a lot of the other stars are still around and are hoping for a better effort this season. The Panthers must hit the road to begin the year but have a winnable game in Week 1 when they face off with the San Francisco 49ers....
Denver is only two seasons removed from a Super Bowl title and still has an elite defense, but the NFL is such a passing league now that failing to find success through the air really brings down their potential to make a deep playoff run.San Diego has been hammered by injuries the past couple of years so outside expectations are low, but the oddsmakers have shown them respect in this one and quarterback Philip Rivers hopes to lead his team to the upset win on the road to start the year on a high note....
Two of the best teams in the NFC will open up Week 1 with a bang when they face off. The Seattle Seahawks are traveling to play the Green Bay Packers. Both teams have won Super Bowls with their current quarterbacks at the helm and are on the short list to capture the title in 2017....
The Patriots have many of the same faces returning, led by quarterback Tom Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski and mastermind coach Bill Belichick. Even though Brady is near the end of his career, he keeps playing at an extremely high level, proving that Father Time has yet to do damage. The Chiefs went 12-4 a season ago but the Steelers knocked them out in the AFC Divisional Round. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was taken in the first round of the draft, so there could be a changing of the guard soon in Kansas City, but for now there are a lot of familiar pieces heading into this one....
