2022 Seattle Seahawks Season Win Total Odds

Seattle Seahawks Season Win Total Betting

For the first time since 2009, the Seattle Seahawks may win fewer than seven games in a season. This franchise has never finished worse than 7-10 under Pete Carroll, but the Seahawks mashed the reset button this offseason by trading franchise quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. Seattle received quite a haul for Wilson, getting back Drew Lock, Noah Fant, Shelby Harris, and six draft picks, so Carroll and the Seahawks are hoping this is just a momentary downturn. The Seahawks finished in last place in their division for the first time since 1996 last season, and the oddsmakers think they will be at the bottom of the NFC West once more.

Seattle Seahawks Offense

As a result of the Russell Wilson trade, Seattle has one of the worst quarterback rooms in the NFL. Either Geno Smith or Drew Lock will start under center for the Seahawks, and neither quarterback is seen as a top 25 option. Smith is the likely starter as he has more experience in this system, completing 68.4% of his passes for 702 yards with five touchdowns and an interception last season. However, Lock has a decent amount of raw talent that Denver was unable to develop. Lock struggled with accuracy and turnovers during his three seasons with the Broncos, but he has a lot of arm strength and could really benefit from a change of scenery.

Whoever starts under center will have some solid receivers to work with in the passing game. D.K. Metcalf is one of the premier pass catchers in the NFL, and his size and athleticism means that he can go up and get jump balls or blow by defenders. Tyler Lockett was a surprising deep ball threat last year too, averaging 16.1 YPR for the Seahawks.

Noah Fant has the potential to be a top ten tight end in the NFL if he stays healthy, and Marquise Goodwin is a speedster.

Seattle has had some durability issues in its backfield. Rashaad Penny and Chris Carson have both had trouble staying healthy, so the Seahawks selected Kenneth Walker III out of Michigan State in the second round. Walker is a hard-nosed running back that can move the chains, but Penny is the No. 1 option after averaging a whopping 6.3 YPC when healthy in 2021.

The Seahawks selected offensive tackle Charles Cross with the No. 9 overall pick in the draft, and Cross will be asked with protecting his quarterback’s blind side. Gabe Jackson is a solid guard, but there are otherwise questions along the offensive line.

Seattle Seahawks Defense

This defense has ranked outside the top 20 in total defense for three straight seasons, and the 2022 version could be the worst version of this defense yet. Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner left in the offseason, and this linebacking corps is one of the weakest in the NFL. Shelby Harris immediately becomes the best or second-best defensive lineman up front as L.J. Collier hasn’t panned out, and the secondary is an abject disaster.

Seattle’s decision to trade a king’s ransom to the New York Jets for Jamal Adams backfired in spectacular fashion. Adams has been an average to below average safety during his time in the Emerald City, and that has really hurt this defense. Tre Brown should be better in his second season at cornerback, but the Seahawks are going to give up a lot of yards through the air.

Prediction

The Seahawks’ offense is going to be better than people think as long as the quarterback play isn’t bad, and there is reason to believe that Smith or Lock can put up decent numbers. However, the defense is going to be a mess, and that will really hurt in this division.
