Philadelphia Eagles Season Win Total Betting

General manager Howie Roseman is making sure to give Jalen Hurts every chance to prove himself. Philadelphia drafted Alabama teammate Devonta Smith in the first round of last year’s draft to give him a top target, and the Eagles sent one of their first-round picks along with a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft to the Tennessee Titans for A.J. Brown on draft night. Hurts now has two elite receivers to target in the passing game, so the onus is on him to make this offense into one of the league’s best units.

Philadelphia Eagles Offense

This is Jalen Hurts’ third season in the NFL, so the Philadelphia Eagles want to know exactly where they stand with their young quarterback. Much like the Miami Dolphins, the Eagles have surrounded their young QB with talented skill position players in order to determine if they can win with him under center. However, since Hurts was a second-round pick, he is only under contract for one more year after this season.

Hurts was not very effective as a rookie in 2020, but he was a better passer in his second season as his accuracy improved. He is one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the league and ran for 784 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging 5.6 YPC in 2021 too. However, Hurts can be wildly inconsistent from game to game.

Miles Sanders wasn’t used out of the backfield as much as he should have been last year, so expect that to change this season. Sanders was the team’s most effective running back, averaging 5.5 YPC, yet he only averaged 6.1 YPR. Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott are solid back-ups to Sanders too.

This passing attack will be much better with the addition of A.J. Brown. Devonta Smith had a nice rookie season, but he wasn’t quite ready to be a No. 1 receiver. Brown will take the pressure off of him, and that will lead to a more natural fit for Smith in his second season.

Although Tennessee runs the ball more often than almost every team in the NFL, Brown showed that he could be a star in any offense during his three years with the Titans. He would have recorded 1,000 yards in all three of his seasons with the team if he didn’t miss four games due to injury last year. Brown is a great downfield threat and should complement Devonta Smith pretty well in this offense.

Philadelphia Eagles Defense

Fletcher Cox is still the lynchpin of this defense. Cox has been one of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL for a decade, and now he has a lot of help alongside him after the Eagles selected Jordan Davis out of Georgia. Davis has incredible speed for a defensive lineman his size, although stamina is a concern. Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett will be on the edges once again, and this could easily be one of the five best defensive lines in the NFL.

Philadelphia also selected Nakobe Dean and expect Dean to be one of the starting linebackers alongside free agent acquisition Haason Reddick. We saw Reddick sign a three-year deal worth $45 million this offseason, and he has been one of the most underrated pass rushers with 23.5 sacks over the last two seasons.

This secondary has an excellent veteran cornerback in Darius Slay and a very good safety in Jaquiski Tartt. There isn’t a lot of depth though, so it’s important that they stay healthy.

Prediction

If Hurts can simply be above average, Philadelphia has a chance to contend for a Super Bowl. Everything else is in place, and the Eagles have the potential to be great on defense. I don’t completely buy into Hurts, but the team around him is so good that Philly should win at least 10 games.
