2022 Kansas City Chiefs Season Win Total Odds

Kansas City Chiefs Season Win Total Betting

Since Andy Reid took over the Kansas City Chiefs, they have been one of the best teams in the NFL. The Chiefs went 2-14 before Reid’s first season in 2013, but they have rebounded to win at least 10 games in eight of the last nine seasons. They have won the AFC West for six straight years, and they have been to the AFC Championship Game for four straight seasons. Kansas City has the second shortest odds to win the AFC behind Buffalo this season, and the Chiefs are always going to be a threat with the great Patrick Mahomes under center.

Kansas City Chiefs Offense

The big story for the Chiefs this offseason was the decision to trade Tyreek Hill rather than re-sign him to a long-term contract. Hill had just one year left on his current deal with Kansas City and was looking for a lucrative extension, but the team did not want to give him the money he was looking for on the open market. That led to the Chiefs dealing Hill to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for five draft picks, including a first- and second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

That deprives Patrick Mahomes of his most explosive receiver, but Kansas City still has the most talented quarterback in the game today. Mahomes has been exceptional over his four seasons as a starter, and he was selected to play in the Pro Bowl last year despite posting the worst numbers of his career. He threw a career-high 13 interceptions and averaged just 7.4 YPA, but the Chiefs still made it to the AFC Championship Game before losing in overtime.

Mahomes will still have one of his two favorite targets in tight end Travis Kelce. The future Hall of Famer had 92 receptions for 1,125 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

However, Kansas City will need to replace Hill’s production on the perimeter. Mecole Hardman is the obvious choice to step up, but he has largely been a disappointment over his three seasons in the NFL.

Because of Hardman’s inability to take his game to the next level, the Chiefs went out and acquired three other receivers that should see significant action. Veterans JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling both jumped at the chance to play with Mahomes, and Skyy Moore was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft.

This ground game needs to step up too. Clyde Edwards-Helaire has largely been a disappointment as well through his two seasons in the league despite having so many weapons around him.

Kansas City Chiefs Defense

This defense has vacillated between above average and poor over the four seasons that Mahomes has been at the helm. Kansas City has tried to address that in free agency, and the Chiefs added two pieces in this year’s draft too. Cornerback Trent McDuffie is expected to start right away, and George Karlaftis should give this front seven a solid pass rusher opposite Frank Clark.

The defensive line has a lot of potential. Chris Jones and Derrick Nnadi are a solid pair of defensive tackles, and Clark can be very disruptive. Joshua Kaindoh has a lot of raw talent too, and he could be a force off the bench.

These defensive backs are a concern though. Kansas City is going to miss Tyrann Mathieu and opposing quarterbacks can have a field day with these cornerbacks if McDuffie isn’t ready to make an immediate impact.

Prediction

The AFC West is much better than it was previously, but the Chiefs are still the gold standard in the division. It’s a little disrespectful to set their win total at 10.5 when they have won 12 games for four straight seasons, and they will claim another division title in 2022.
