2022 Jacksonville Jaguars Season Win Total Odds

Jacksonville Jaguars Season Win Total Betting

After less than one season at the helm, the Urban Meyer experiment came to a thankful end in Jacksonville. Meyer’s short tenure was an abject disaster on and off the field. He stirred up multiple controversies, and the franchise continued to spin its wheels instead of rebuilding for the future. The Jaguars hired former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson this offseason, so now the rebuild should begin in earnest. There are some decent pieces on the revamped roster, and the Jaguars might turn some heads in 2022.

Jacksonville Jaguars Offense

Trevor Lawrence was the most hyped quarterback coming out of college since Andrew Luck. Virtually every analyst had Lawrence pegged as a future star in the NFL, but his rookie season did not go too well. Some of that was certainly due to Meyer and a relatively weak supporting cast, yet there were a lot of concerns with the way that Lawrence failed to develop over the course of the season. He was solid in the regular season finale, but he threw 10 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while completing under 60% of his passes for under 6.0 YPA in his other 16 starts.

General manager Trent Baalke was not afraid to shell out big money this offseason. Christian Kirk signed a four-year contract worth $84 million with the Jaguars, and Evan Engram signed a one-year deal with the team. Zay Jones also signed a three-yar deal with Jacksonville, giving Lawrence a new group of receivers along with Marvin Jones Jr.

The running back situation should be much better too now that Travis Etienne is healthy. Etienne was taken late in the first round by the Jaguars in 2021, but he missed his entire rookie campaign due to injury. He and Lawrence have a strong rapport from their time together at Clemson, and he is expected to beat out James Robinson for the starting running back job.

This offensive line should be better in 2022 as well. The Jaguars placed the franchise tag on Cam Robinson and then signed the left tackle to a three-year contract worth $54 million. That should keep Lawrence’s blind side protected, and the team also added five-time Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff from the Washington Commanders.

Jacksonville Jaguars Defense

For the second straight season, the Jaguars had the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Jacksonville selected Lawrence with the first pick last year, and the Jaguars chose Travon Walker out of Georgia to bolster their defense in April. Walker didn’t post a lot of big numbers with Georgia, but he has all the measurables you want for a player to shine at the next level.

This linebacking corps has been completely revamped. Josh Allen is still one of the starters, but Walker is expected to replace the disappointing K’Lavon Chaisson. Devin Lloyd was taken late in the first round by the Jaguars after a dominant career at Utah, and Jacksonville signed Foyesade Oluokun to a three-year, $45 million contract in free agency.

While the linebacking corps should be a strength, the defensive line and secondary are still very much a work in progress. Jacksonville made some moves to improve in both areas, but there just isn’t a lot of talent up front or in the back.

Prediction

No one is expecting the Jaguars to make a playoff push this season, but fans do want to see improvement after finishing with the worst record in the league for two straight years. Much of that will depend on Lawrence and how well many of the new additions learn how to play together. It feels like the oddsmakers pegged this one right on the nose, so it’s tough to go with either ‘Over’ or ‘Under’.
