Week Eight CFB Betting Recap – Michigan’s Coming Out Party

Week Eight CFB Betting Recap

Week eight was a confirmation for fans and backers of the Michigan Wolverines as their dominating payout at the Michigan State Spartans served notice to the college football world that the Maize and Blue was indeed truly back as a substantive national power. At the payout window last week “undertakers” were particularly happy with just 20 of the 55 week eight games clearing the total. Home field provided little advantage with the host teams paying in only 23 games last week. Chalks had a slight advantage for week eight with just 25 losses on the board. Most of all the Purdue Boilermakers proved to be a big and lively home dog as they ran the Ohio State Buckeyes back to Columbus on a rail. Let’s review a fantastic week eight of college football.

Boiler Up!

Certainly, the talk of week eight was the Purdue Boilermakers scoring a 49-20 blowout of Ohio State as 12.5-point home dogs. Additionally, Purdue was a +350 straight up money line play. What was most embarrassing for Buckeye fans was the fact that quarterback Dwayne Haskins attempted a team record 73 passes. Shamefully the Buckeyes could only manage 76 rushing yards on 25 carries. Beyond all of that Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm completely outclassed Ohio State’s Urban Meyer. Most important Purdue is now a co-leader in the Big Ten West Division.

Big Brother Takes Top Bunk

Meanwhile Michigan took over sole possession of first place in the Big Ten East Division with a 21-7 pummeling of Michigan State as 7.5-point road chalks. The result was no accident as the Maize and Blue outgained the overmatched Spartans 395-94. It was sweet revenge for head coach Jim Harbaugh who labeled Michigan State’s pregame antics as “bush league.”

Bama and Badgers Lay the Wood

Alabama and Wisconsin were the two biggest chalks to pay on Saturday. To show, the Alabama Crimson Tide scored a 58-21 win at the Tennessee Volunteers as 29.5-point chalks while the Wisconsin Badgers scored a 49-20 homecoming win over the Fighting Illini of Illinois as 24-point favorites.

Wisconsin was often sloppy and unfocused against Illinois but simply had far too much in the way of personnel. The Badgers massive offensive line mauled Illinois for 357 yards rushing and 6.6 yards per carry to stay in the Big Ten West Division race as a co-leader.

The superlatives for Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa are simply inadequate. Tua lit up the Volunteers for 306 yards and four touchdown passes. He now has 25 touchdown passes with ZERO interceptions and a 70.4 completion percentage with 13.6 yards per attempt. It’s no wonder the Tide is being touted by some as the greatest team of all time.

NC State Exposed as Pretender

More than a few gamblers took a reach on what was an undefeated North Carolina State Wolfpack team in their game at the Clemson Tigers. It was no contest as the Tigers easily covered the 17.5-point spread in a 41-7 muscle flexing decimation of the pretenders from Raleigh. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney continues to prove vindicated with true freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who threw for 308 yards with a TD in the win. Overall Lawrence has 12 touchdown passes with just two interceptions and a 68 percent completion rate on the season.

Go with Coach O!

The LSU Tigers are also a major surprise with a record of 7-1 straight up and 5-3 against the spread after last week’s 19-3 home payout over the Mississippi State Bulldogs as five-point chalks. The laughing and mocking of head coach Ed Orgeron has ended and has been replaced with respect. LSU’s rock-ribbed defense ranks seventh nationally for points allowed. And Ohio State transfer quarterback Joe Burrow gives the Bayou Bengals just enough offense.

Oregon Drowns on the Palouse

Finally, the Washington State Cougars proved their worth with a 34-20 home payout over the Oregon Ducks as three-point chalks. What is most surprising about Wazzu is their 18th in the nation ranked defense. With ESPN Gameday and an overflow crowd on hand for the FOX primetime game it was among the biggest wins in program history.
