Week 6 College Football Odds Betting Recap

Week 6 College Football Odds Betting Recap

It was another week of surprises and revelations for gamblers in week six of college football. Perhaps no conference has shown top values and teams to oppose than the American Athletic Conference. There were College Football Playoffs confirmed contenders (Notre Dame) and pretenders (Oklahoma). Overlays on sure things once again blew up and there were of course a couple of losses that were as tough on gamblers as they were on the teams. Let’s recap a fantastic and educational week six of college football that bettors certainly found noteworthy.

American Athletic Conference Top Values

Operating in the American Athletic Conference the Cincinnati Bearcats and Central Florida Knights are often forgotten about, with the exception of hard-core players and sharps. Yet both are producing significant value thus far.

Cincinnati stunned everyone with their 26-17 win at UCLA and has never looked back. After Saturday’s 37-21 home payout over the Tulane Green Wave, UC is 6-0 straight up and 5-1 against the spread. Meanwhile the Central Florida Knights have not suffered from the departure of head coach Scott Frost as they are now 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread after last week’s 48-20 home payout over improved SMU.

AAC Go Against Teams

The success of UCF and Cincinnati is countered by the stunning regression of the Navy Midshipmen and utter hopelessness of the Connecticut Huskies.

The Navy Midshipmen were stunned in a week four 31-30 overtime loss at SMU which turned out to be a portent of things to come. Navy was carpet bombed 35-7 at Air Force in week six to fall to 2-3 straight up and 1-4 against the spread. Connecticut was blasted at Memphis last Saturday 55-14 which was the sixth time in six games that the Huskies have failed to pay.

Tough Loss for Orange Backers

Syracuse suffered a gut-wrenching week five loss at Clemson but did get the money in a 27-23 loss in which the blew what looked to be a certain win in the process. But last Saturday at Pitt gamblers shared the anguish of the Orange in their 44-37 overtime loss in which they were 3.5-point chalks. Syracuse was covering until midway in the fourth and still could have gotten the money in overtime. What’s worse is that Pitt paid for just the second time in what has been a rough season for them.

Hokie Pokey for Bankrolls

Virginia Tech was considered a dangerous and live home dog for their Saturday night home game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. But after the electrifying tunnel walk and entrance of the team to the field it was all downhill from there as Notre Dame covered with ease in a 45-23 payout as 6.5-point chalks. The win was quite the statement maker for the Irish and will add to their board credibility with gamblers.

Big 12 Overlays

The defenseless Oklahoma Sooners were never a serious threat to cover their 48-45 loss to the Texas Longhorns as seven-point dogs. Texas had a 27-21 first down advantage and amassed 501 yards of total offense. Gamblers should feel burned by a Sooners team that was clearly not of championship mettle due to a defense that is among the worst in the country.

And the West Virginia Mountaineers found the 27-point spread at home against the Kansas Jayhawks a bridge too far in their 38-22 win. The Mounties were a classic case of being a public forgone conclusion, especially up against a weak Kansas team but came up flat.

Spartans Won’t

The Michigan State Spartans failed to get the money for the fourth time in five games in a 29-19 home loss to the Northwestern Wildcats as 10.5-point favorites. Michigan State has won three of their games straight up but an offense that ranks 85th in the country for scoring is killing their board value.

Bad Beat for Mizzou

The Missouri Tigers blew multiple leads at the South Carolina Gamecocks including a 35-34 lead with just 1:18 to play after Tucker McCann kicked a 57-yard field goal. Yet their defense couldn’t finish as Carolina got a 33-yard field goal by Parker White to win and cover the pick ‘em affair.
