Auburn at Georgia CFB Week 5 Betting

Auburn at Georgia CFB Betting

Last week was quite a contrast in opening day performances for both the Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs. On the Plains coach Gus Malzahn sported a Pat Dye retro look in a respectful tribute to the legendary Auburn coach who died last summer. Malzahn’s white, short sleeve shirt, blue and orange striped tie, and throwback blue cap with an orange Block A was a fan favorite. Most important of all War Eagle scored a CFB odds cover against Kentucky. By contrast Georgia failed to get the cash in a sloppy win at Arkansas.

Auburn Tigers at Georgia Bulldogs Bookmaker Wagering Analysis

On this occasion we have two marquee SEC teams and brands with the CFB odds. As mentioned earlier Auburn was more impressive last week. However, Georgia is still considered the deeper program. The respective week one performance of both teams will keep the price even.

Auburn Nixed Kentucky in Home Opener

Week one action saw Auburn beat Kentucky 29-13 as 6-5-point home chalk with the game going under the total of 46. Kentucky outgained Auburn 384 to 324 but was -3 on turnovers. Auburn scored the CFB odds cover with polish. War Eagle simply committed fewer mistakes. Sophomore quarterback Bo Nix was 16 of 27 for 233 yards and three touchdowns. Last year Nix made quite an impression as a freshman starter and now has the advantage of a full season under his belt. Seth Williams had six catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns as top Tiger receiver.

Bulldogs All Bark and No Bite at Arkansas

Georgia was a 27.5-point road chalk in their 37-10 win at Arkansas and many felt it was apropos that they failed to cover the CFB odds by half a point. Junior quarterback Stetson Bennett came off the bench to bail out UGA going 20 of 29 for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Arkansas was limited to 3 of 14 on third down conversions. Georgia coach Kirby Smart wasn’t pleased with the lack of polish and 12 penalties.

Auburn Tigers at Georgia Bulldogs Against the Spread

Auburn has covered six of their last nine October road games while going 1-4 under the total in that situation. War Eagle is 4-8 vs. the odds as a road dog as well as 1-5-1 under the total in that role. On the SEC road Auburn is 10-6-1 on the board and 2-5-1 under the total at SEC rivals.

Georgia has covered only two of their last 10 October home games with six of their last eight in that situation going under. UGA’s mark of 2-6 vs. the line as home chalk is troublesome. Georgia has gone under five straight times as home chalk. Georgia is just 3-6 on the board hosting SEC teams with 10 of their last 12 SEC home matchups going under the total.

This SEC rivalry has seen Georgia pay in 11 of the last 15 meetings with six of the last seven between these teams going under. Georgia has covered six straight home games with Auburn and at Sanford Stadium this matchup has gone under four straight times.

In this matchup Georgia makes for a potential bargain. Squares will be more hesitant to lay points with UGA after last week’s performance. In the same way Auburn’s week one performance may inflate expectations as well as the Tigers price tag too. As was previously noted Georgia owns this series.
