Bachelorette Season 15 Episode 1 Recap and Odds

Bachelorette Season 15

Only one week is gone and it already looks like we have a prohibitive favorite for Season 15 of the Bachelorette. Luke Joshua Parker or Luke P. as he is sometimes referred to is the early choice to end up with Hannah Brown. The “first-impression rose” has been a great predictor of previous Bachelorette winners and Luke got that rose from Hannah in the first episode. The question now becomes whether or not there is anyone else who can make this season into a race.

Episode 1 Recap

Hannah began with a nervous, but excited introduction saying, “Bless the man who spends forever with me because I’m so much to handle, but what I want to give somebody is really special. I’m nervous but excited. I’ve got to be completely myself and the desire of my heart is to find love. I don’t know what I’m doing, but bring on the men.”

The season premiere which aired on May 13, 2019 featured Hannah taking a no nonsense approach and letting the men know that she won’t be putting up with any nonsense. Hannah spent several minutes railing into Scott who supposedly has a girl friend back home. Hannah sent him packing and then asked the rest of the men if they had any girlfriends she should know about.

Hannah also didn’t seem to get too excited about Joe jumping out of a box. Joe went into a whole spiel about boxes and then jumped out of a box full of packing peanuts and said, “I just want you to know that you check all of my boxes.” Joe was sent packing in the first episode.

Luke definitely took the early lead in Season 15, as he had a great introduction that focused on God. “When I was in college, a lot of the girls around me thought so, too—and I definitely took advantage of that,” he said in this introduction. “But I was just getting a whole lot of emptiness. This emptiness overcame me, and I had an encounter with God. I was in the shower, and God was speaking to me. I realized that I wasn’t the man that I wanted to be.” It should be noted that Hannah took a moment to pray before meeting the group of men. Luke was the first man to lead Hannah away during the cocktail hour and he had the most passionate kiss of the night with her and there is no question he has a big early lead.

It should be noted, however, that the show’s trailer indicates that there are storm clouds brewing in regard to Luke, so it will be interesting to see if they are real or just hype.

In addition to Luke, there were some other men who made an impression on Hannah. Cam, who is from Austin, Texas, met Hannah previously and Hannah still seems to be enamored with him. Cam earned a rose from “After the Final Rose in March” and he got the season’s first kiss from Hannah in Episode 1. Mike from San Antonio is an Air Force veteran and he seemed to get attention from Hannah as well. Not to be forgotten are Connor who jumped the fence in his entrance and Jed who can definitely play the guitar, as he sang a “Roll Tide” song for Hannah and got her to say “I have a total crush on Jed.”

Seven men were sent home in the first episode, Joe the Box King; Matt Donald, Brian the math teacher, Chasen the pilot, Hunter the surfer, Ryan and Thomas.

Surprises Ahead?

ABC’s Rob Mills and Brooke Karzen, who helped develop the series, said that this year’s Bachelorette will have twists and turns. “There’s ups and downs; it’s an absolute roller coaster,” Karzen said to the media, “I think what’s really going to be surprising is how’s it all going to end,” she said, “and I really don’t know.”

Bachelorette Odds

Luke P. is the favorite in Bachelorette odds and that is no surprise considering what happened after the premiere. If you are going to bet against Luke the time is now, as his odds will probably never be lower and the rest of the field never higher. The odds on Mike, Cam, Connor and Jed are definitely appealing, but whether any of them can get into the running is the question.
