League of Legends 2020 World Championship Betting

The best League of Legends teams from around the world will descend on Shanghai in two weeks for the start of the World Championships. This will be the first international sporting event in any sense since the coronavirus outbreak as teams from China, Europe, North America, Korea, southeast Asia, Brazil, Russia, Japan, Latin America, Oceania, and Turkey will all be looking to hoist the Summoners’ Cup. Two Chinese teams are favored by the Esports betting odds following the wins of Invictus Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix the last two years, but LCK side DAMWON Gaming is looking to bring the trophy back to Korea.

After winning the 2020 Mid-Season Cup and the LPL Summer Split finals, Top Esports have to be the favorite coming into this event. Bringing in former Invictus Gaming bottom laner JackeyLove really unlocked this team’s potential, and we have seen exquisite play from every position since May. The best player is mid laner Knight, but 369 has made a name for himself in the top lane and Karsa is one of the most experienced junglers in international competition after his time with Flash Wolves and RNG.

JD Gaming won the 2020 LPL Spring Split over Top, but they lost in five games in the Summer Split rematch. This bottom lane isn’t the best as Loken only played two champions during the playoffs, but the Dumpling Brothers (Zoom and Yagao) are two of the best laners in the world. Kanavi has been a real difference maker out of the jungle too, and you have to consider him the best player at that position in the world coming into Shanghai.

The super conservative playstyle that defined the LCK for the last decade has been turned on its head by DAMWON Gaming. They ran riot over their opponents over the last half of the Summer Split, winning 12 straight matches to win their first LCK title. Nuguri is arguably the most talented top laner in the world, and he is never fazed if he gets into an early hole, while ShowMaker is an exceptional mid laner that made his two accounts the top two in Korean solo queue earlier this year.

It’s been an up and down year for G2 Esports. Although they remained the Kings of Europe with their fourth straight LEC title, there were some clear weaknesses with this team in 2020. Jankos and Perkz ran into their fair share of problems, but mid laner Caps provided a steady hand, carrying this team for long stretches.

Chovy has carried his team throughout the season too. DragonX wouldn’t have made it past Gen. G without his play in the mid lane, and he was responsible for 26.8 percent of DRX’s damage in the playoffs per Games of Legends. Keria has the potential to be a world class support and Deft is a veteran bottom laner, but there are real concerns in the top lane and jungle with Doran and Pyosik. This team’s drafts have been puzzling too, but they can make a deep run if they put it together.

The longshot to like at these odds is Rogue at 50-1. They were the third seed from Europe, but they were the best team in the regular season and nearly knocked off G2 in the Summer Split semifinals. This team is raw, but very skilled, and they can pull off some upsets if they continue to draft well.
