League of Legends 2020 NEST Quarterfinals

League of Legends 2020 NEST Quarterfinals

The 2020 League of Legends NEST Tournament will wrap up with a flurry of action this weekend. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals will take place on subsequent days, and we will have a new champion since SinoDragon (Dominus Esports) was not part of this event. Only the top four teams will win prize money, so it’s important for each team to make it to the semifinals.

2020 League of Legends NEST Quarterfinals Odds

Royal Never Give Up -126

FunPlus Phoenix +100

This might be the most hyped match-up as a battle between the old guard and new guard. Royal Never Give Up does have star mid laner Xiaohu available for this series, and they will have seasoned players like top laner New, jungler XLB, and AD Carry Gala on the roster too. Ming is not taking part in this competition, so that hurts, but RNG has more of its talent from the Summer Split available than FunPlus Phoenix.

FPX are bringing their 2019 World Championship winning bottom late into this quarterfinals match, but superstars Doinb and Khan are back in Korea and not on the roster for NEST. Insulator fared well in leading this team to wins over Edward Gaming and eStar last week, but Xiaohu is a serious step up from those mid laners. FPX will also have inexperienced players in the top lane and jungle, so RNG is the best bet.

Rogue Warriors -235

LGD Gaming +180

It was a dismal domestic campaign for Rogue Warriors, but perhaps they can finish with a bang. They knocked off Suning and Bilibili Gaming to win Group A, and now they will take on an LGD Gaming squad that isn’t playing any of its roster from this year’s World Championship.

While some members of LGD are young and talented, inexperience is not what you want at this stage. Rogue Warriors have experience in spades, so they are the play as a sizable favorite.

Edward Gaming +148

Team WE -189

One of the most impressive teams at NEST to this point has been Team WE. They went 4-1 in the Group Stage, and they are a threat to win it all given their lineup for this event. While they don’t have Morgan or Teacherma, they do have jungler Beishang, AD Carry Jiumeng, and support Missing. All three players started every game for Team WE in the 2020 Summer Split.

Jiumeng was extremely impressive. He has a shallow champion pool with 37 of 43 games on either Ashe, Ezreal, or Aphelios, but he shelled out an absurd 35 percent of his team’s damage. He was the best on Ashe (66.7 percent win rate; 5.0 KDA) and Aphelios (88.9 percent win rate; 6.0 KDA) per Games of Legends, so EDG will need to keep those champions out of his hands.

Edward Gaming played well in its upset of eStar last weekend, as jungle Jiejie was in fact a difference maker. However, their bottom lane might get hard punished against Team WE in this quarterfinals match.

Suning +285

Vici Gaming -400

Suning were the runners-up at the 2020 World Championships, but they have largely been dismissed at NEST. All of their starters from that event have elected not to play in this tournament, but the coaching staff and strategies are still in place to make this team competitive. We saw that they could still make some noise in Group A.

Vici have one of the most experienced teams at this tournament with iBoy at AD Carry and Leyan in the jungle, but they are too much of a favorite.
